Now P-6 training with MK3 Kucler!

The P-6 pump is a critical piece of equipment used for dewatering and firefighting operations at USCG Station Duluth. Training on the proper use of the P-6 pump is essential for newly reported personnel to ensure they can effectively respond to emergencies and protect lives and property. Understanding the capabilities and limitations of the pump, as well as proper maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, is crucial for successful operations.

This past Friday, Coast Guard members attended the annual tradition of lighting the Split Rock Lighthouse. This ceremony takes place every year on November 10th to honor the 29 crewmembers who unfortunately passed in 1975 from the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

We conducted a traditional nautical ceremony called “Muster of the Last Watch.” This is to honor and remember a lost crewman at sea and includes the ringing of the ship’s bell. Traditionally, if a crewman was lost while a vessel was underway, the ship’s bell was rung when the lost crewman’s watch was “mustered” and his name was called for the first time following his loss. The ringing of the bell took the place of the crewman’s answering, “aye-aye”, so that his place in the watch was not lost. In this ceremony, there was a 30th ring of the bell in honor of all lost sailors on the Great Lakes.

Thank you to Minnesota Historical Society and Split Rock Lighthouse for putting together a great ceremony to honor these individuals. You can watch the full ceremony here: https://www.youtube.com/live/9-vlCTWD9wI?si=yXY1ZjAkw-cURtDr
