Our colleague and friend Pat Goodman passed away unexpectedly last Saturday morning. Pat worked for DAIP for over 19 years, most of which was spent Co-coordinating our Men’s Nonviolence Program and analyzing and distributing risk information after an arrest for domestic assault. Pat was the link between risk information and prosecutors, judges, pre-trial release, probation and child protection. She made it easier for all of us to do the work of improving safety for victims and holding offenders accountable. Pat also helped our work in developing the Changing Men, Changing Lives curriculum for working with Christian men. We as a staff and community are grieving the loss of our friend and colleague. She was the best. ❤️

A woman called her advocate Cami and told her that she had to go to the ER due to pain she was experiencing during pregnancy. Her one year old child needed a place to be so Cami took the baby for the day so the woman could get to the hospital. As the day progressed, it was unclear if the mother would be released and Cami had no way of transporting the child so she called one of DAIP’s partner’s in our local coordinated community response for help. Sergeant Keandre Ghorman answered the call and dropped off the Duluth Police car seat in the event we had to transport the baby. In the conversation with Sgt. Ghorman, Cami discovered the car seat was the only one the department had. Cami then called Scott Miller who is the Director of DAIP and together agreed to purchase new car seats for both the Duluth Police Department and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office. The money was used from the Mary Asmus Victim Fund which is a fund that is maintained by DAIP to support the needs of victims in the community. The fund is named after City of Duluth Prosecutor Mary Asmus (retired) who contributed so much to the domestic violence work both locally and nationally. Thank you to our local law enforcement agencies for being such strong supporters of our work with and for victims of domestic assault.
Pictured is Duluth Police Public Information Officer Mattie Johnson, Undersheriff Jason Akerson from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Duluth Police Officer Derek Hussey, DAIP Women’s Program Coordinator Cami Inforzato and DAIP Executive Director Scott Miller. As you can see, it takes 3 law enforcement and two community advocates to put together car seats.

I am Serenity June Dennard. Today is my birthday. I'm 14 years old now. I disappeared from Rockerville, South Dakota on February 3rd, 2019, when I was just 9 years old. Numerous searches of the area have turned up no signs of me raising the likelihood I may have been picked up by a stranger.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and the Pennington County Sheriff's Office released a new age progression photo of how I might look today (first photo).

HERSTORY and RECOGNITION
Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs was incorporated as a nonprofit agency in 1980 under the name Minnesota Program Development, Inc. The Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (DAIP), its first project of the agency, which began in a small, upstairs kitchen of the Duluth Community Health Center in Duluth. Three people were employed to coordinate the project, provide services to victims and offenders, and negotiate policies and procedures with community agencies. The project was the first of its kind. Nine city, county, and private agencies came together to adopt policies and procedures that coordinated their intervention in domestic assault cases. These policies focus on protecting victims from continued acts of violence by combining support services for victims and legal sanctions and rehabilitation programs for offenders. Currently, the work of DAIP is found in every state and we have projects and collaborations in many places around the world.
Below is an abbreviated history of the major accomplishments of the DAIP.
1980 The Domestic Abuse Intervention Project organizes under the nonprofit corporation Minnesota Program Development, Inc. At the request of the Duluth shelter (Women's Coalition), Duluth is selected as the site for a pilot criminal justice reform project.
