Since we were closed yesterday we missed the national celebration - luckily our own homemade Apple Strudel is available nightly at your neighborhood bistro
Apple strudel, a type of layered pastry filled with apples, is celebrated today
Strudels are usually sweet, but they can be savory as well. Their name comes from the German word “strudel,” which means “whirlpool” or “eddy.” The oldest recipe for them dates to 1696, and they originated from similar pastries from the Middle East and Byzantine Empire. During the eighteenth century, they became popular in the Habsburg Empire. They are associated with Austrian cuisine, and common in all areas that once comprised Austria-Hungary.
