🩸Reasons for back pain during your period:
1️⃣Hormonal changes that effect ligaments around the pelvis/low back region.
1. Ligament laxity = too loose
2. Spinal/pelvis instability = pain in the low back or pelvic region
2️⃣Prostaglandins: When released they can contribute to menstrual pain.
1. Stimulate the uterus to contract
2. Cause cramps
3. Heavy contractions can refer to the abdomen/back/pelvis
3️⃣Underlying pelvic floor dysfunction
1. Hypertonicity (too tight)
2. Hypotonicity (too lax)
3. Pelvic Organ Prolapse
So what to do:
🧘♀️ Ideal workouts during your period include relaxing yoga poses or stretching, light cardio or walking, lighter strength training
💦 Stay hydrated with water & electrolytes.
👌If it keeps happening, getting a thorough assessment from a movement specialist (physical therapist) will help you with spinal/pelvic stability!

Winner announced Saturday, May 7th at 6pm!
It’s that simple.
When you go to a pelvic floor therapist, they should examine and treat outside of the pelvic floor.
Meaning, they should assess your feet, your hips, your spine, your rib cage, your abdomen, your neck/shoulder blade region!!!
And then treat it appropriately!
If you’ve had pelvic floor therapy and it only consisted of electrodes & Kegels, you got shafted. That’s a sham.
Bringing pelvic floor/ortho PT to you ✨
💥 COME TO YOU SERVICE 💥
I treat a lot of clients out of their home, work, or even gym space. Why? Convenience for the client while maximizing their treatments. I can assess the client in their space they spend the majority of their time in or the space they’re experiencing the dysfunction in. I am one-on-one with every client for a least an hour during a time that works best for your schedule!
In-home treatments allow me to see the bathroom set-up for improving bladder and bowel health. I can see your seated posture and chair that you nurse in or your desk set-up if you’re working from home. If you have a garage gym or do home workouts, we can go through a workout together and figure out why you’re leaking with jumping jacks, or feel heaviness/see doming with ab exercises, or have pain with squatting, deadlifting, snatching, etc.
Mobile PT helps save time and money traveling to and from a clinic. You don’t need to worry about hiring a sitter for your kids. You can schedule a time that is after typical work hours so you don’t need to miss work. I want you to get the help you deserve. Stop using excuses. I’m here for you. Let’s do the darn thing. 💥
Did you know that most of the clients I see experience teeth grinding, jaw clenching, tension headaches, & of course pelvic floor issues?
😯 The jaw is highly connected to the pelvis.
😮 Stress is highly connected to both.
🤩 Inefficient breathing is commonly seen in both
👎 Poor postural awareness/alignment is seen in both
I tell my women & men that pelvic floor dysfunction is just a headache in the pelvis.
If you have jaw pain, jaw clenching, teeth grinding- you may have pelvic floor dysfunction too 🤔
There are so many more to add to this checklist!
1. Leaking urine, f***l matter, and/or gas is NEVER normal. I don’t care if it’s a trickle. Not okay. See a
2. S*x should not be painful or uncomfortable. Things that may affect this: pelvic floor muscles, hormones, anatomical positioning, etc.
3. Bowel movements should come out without us having to push, strain or breath holding. Constipation, incomplete emptying, & hemorrhoids are common issues I treat.
Questions? Did you pass the checklist? 👍🏼 or 👎
⁉️ Did you know this ⁉️
I had a client this morning that I diagnosed with Diastasis Recti & she has never been pregnant.
When I told her, she replied “Oh wow, I thought moms only have that!”
*Cue education*
Diastasis is a pressure mismanagement issue. This means anyone that breathes & has abdominal muscles can be affected by Diastasis 🎤
I see it often in the athletic population due to overuse of their “6 pack muscles” & underuse of the lower/deep core musculature.
I see it often in the overweight population.
I see it in my clients babies! Which is ok/ they’re developing their core as they grow!
✨ Diastasis Recti ✨
What is it?
It’s the thinning of the linea alba (connective tissue where your re**us abdominis muscle meets in the middle). Think of the 6-pack muscles.
It travels from the p***c bone to your ribs.
It can thin above, at, and/or below the naval.
DR is most common in the postpartum population but can also occur in other individuals, male & female.
✅ How to check for it? ✅
You’re checking for the width (how wide is the separation) & more importantly the depth (how firm or squishy is it?)
1. Start by laying on your back.
2. You’re going to check in 3 spots: Halfway between your belly button (BB) & ribs, right above your BB, and below the BB.
3. Start with the first spot, sink your fingers into the linea alba (the line down the middle of your abdomen) & lift up your head.
4. Assess: do you feel a gap? If so, is it firm or squishy? What is your breath doing? Holding your breath/breathing out? How does your pelvic floor feel? Your back?
🚩 If you have a separation that is wider than 2 fingers &/or softness in the linea alba- you’d benefit from seeing a pelvic floor therapist!
🙌 A healed Diastasis is one that is firm & under 2 fingers in width!
Pro note: I also check in planks, leg lowering, push-ups, squats, chest press, etc. Make it functional!
What Q’s do you have? Did you check? 👍🏼 If so!
In one study of chronic low back pain, 95% of people also had pelvic floor dysfunction.
What have you done for your lower back pain symptoms? Physical therapy? Chiro? Acupuncture? Pain meds?
If those haven’t worked well, maybe it’s time to see a pelvic floor PT to get to the root cause of your lingering back pain!
Do you have any of these symptoms?
Pain with in*******se?
Constipation?
Urinary urgency/frequency?
Incontinence?
TMJ Issues?
Reach out and send me a DM! Every client I’ve treated that had back pain- also had underlying pelvic floor issues!!
🎉 Director of Operations 🎉
A little over 2 years ago, I reached out to burnt out AF from “grinding” in an outpatient ortho PT clinic seeing 15-20 patients in a day.
I left that outpatient clinic shortly after meeting her for coffee & we figured out the damn thing. She believed in me, when I was unsure of what the hell I was doing. Leaving a stable job, benefits, steady caseload to now…
🚨 I’m happy to announce I’m becoming the Director of Operations for The HOPE Doctors to help continue growing our mission! 🚨
Our mission: Make Pelvic Floor Therapy Standard Of Care!
I’m forever grateful I took that leap with Dr. Kaylee. Watch out world, we’re taking over!
Where should our next location be?! Stay in Florida or venture to other states? 🙌 🙏🏼
📣 Go see a pelvic floor PT AND make sure it’s a pelvic floor PT that looks at the whole person & can evaluate you head to toe 👋
🏃🏾♀️ Running/landing mechanics must be evaluated
☝️ Single leg strength must be evaluated
🍑 Glute activation must be evaluated
👟 Ankle/foot mobility & stability must be evaluated
🗣Breathing/Thoracic rotation must be evaluated
🧼 📦 ✅

While pelvic floor disorders become more common as women & men get older, they are NOT a normal or acceptable part of again.
These problems can have a significant impact on a person’s quality of life.
Common ones that I see:
💕Pelvic organ prolapse
🍆 Erectile dysfunction
💧 Incontinence
Good news! Seeing a pelvic floor therapist can help!
Are you surprised by this? 👍🏼 👎
🔺Pelvic floor physical therapy in the postpartum period 🔻
This mom is 3 weeks PP 🌟
🔸We addressed her Diastasis Recti
🔸We addressed thoracic rotation to re-establish her diaphragm to pelvic floor connection post vaginal delivery
🔸We addressed an old R ankle injury that was exacerbated through the release of the hormone relaxin
🔸We addressed glute imbalances that’s connected to everything 😆
Postpartum isn’t just leakage, pressure down there, or pain with s*x. It can (should) also include old/new injuries or aches & pain!
Think you’re interested in this type of treatment? Look for a holistic/functional pelvic floor physical therapist!
You don’t have to wait for the green light at your 6 week appt PP with your provider to start seeing a pelvic floor therapist!
In fact, I see a lot of mama’s beforehand IF they feel up to it & want to start being proactive for working on muscular imbalances that occurred throughout pregnancy.
With that being said, I will not perform an internal pelvic floor assessment before you are cleared from your medical provider.
That’s only one piece of the puzzle 🧩
We can start addressing core weakness (Diastasis Recti), breathing to restore the diaphragm & pelvic floor connection to reduce heaviness/pressure (prolapse/back pain), postural awareness (hello feeding/carrying), & light total body strengthening where you need it specifically for you!
When did you see a pelvic floor therapist PP? Tell me below!
💖 Women glow differently when they are loved right and treated properly ✨
😲 Do NOT return to running, jumping, plyometric, HIIT workouts at 6 weeks postpartum. Even if you are cleared!
Musculoskeletal pain, leakage, prolapse, & ab separation is prevalent in postnatal runners. “Common NOT normal”
Running is a high impact sport placing a ton of demand on the body. High impact exercise was found to have an increased risk of pelvic floor issues compared to low impact movement.
You need adequate time to heal PP & regain strength, coordination, power, etc.
✨ Low impact exercise should be implemented within the first 3 months PP & return to running between 3-6 months PP, at the earliest! ✨
When did you return to running, jumping, HIIT workouts PP?
Jumping & leaking is not NORMAL!
If you’re leaking with etc, seek out a HOLISTIC pelvic floor therapist! Meaning they will look at your feet, your hips, your rib cage, heck even your wrist if need be!
Leaking with jumping is a whole body issue- not just a pelvic floor issue.
Some things to consider with jump rope:
1. Stop holding your breath. Small quick breaths out is very helpful.
2. Land quietly. 🤫
3. Make sure your neck isn’t moving/ keep your 👀 on a target in front of you.
4. Make sure your ribs are not flaring. They should be stacked over your pelvis.
5. Think t**s over toes.
6. Make sure your elbow is the midline of your body. NOT behind the body!
7. Stop trying to kegel during the movement.
Questions about jumping & leaking?
Water is all you need. 💦
Soap can dry the skin and scents (even botanicals) can irritate it.
A mild, unscented soap or a cleanser is best, but use sparingly.
Special feminine cleansers are NOT needed & many have fragrance that can be irritating.
