Propagating houseplants from cuttings is a straightforward process. Here's how to do it for 12 popular plants:
1. Pothos (Epipremnum aureum): Cut a stem just below a node and root in water. Transplant when roots form.
2. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum): Remove a plantlet or a stem section with roots and plant directly in moist soil.
3. Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata): Cut a leaf into sections with part of the rhizome. Plant horizontally just beneath the soil surface.
4. ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia): Take a stem cutting with leaflets, let it dry for a day, then plant in well-draining soil.
5. Jade Plant (Crassula ovata): Cut a stem, remove lower leaves, let dry for a day, then plant in well-draining soil.
6. Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica): Cut a stem with a leaf node, optionally use rooting hormone, and plant in moist soil.
7. Philodendron: Take a stem section with nodes and leaves, and root in water or soil.
8. African Violet (Saintpaulia): Snip a leaf with a stem, use rooting hormone, and plant in moist, well-draining soil.
9. Tradescantia (Spiderwort): Cut stems with nodes, remove lower leaves, and root in water or soil.
10. English Ivy (Hedera helix): Cut a stem with nodes, remove lower leaves, and root in water or soil.
11. Coleus (Plectranthus scutellarioides): Take a stem cutting below a node, remove lower leaves, and root in soil or water.
12. Wandering Jew (Tradescantia zebrina): Take stem cuttings with nodes, remove lower leaves, and root in moist soil or water.
Each plant may require slight variations in care, but generally, keep the soil or water moist and provide indirect light until roots develop. Once rooted, transplant into soil as needed. Enjoy expanding your indoor garden through these simple propagation techniques!
