The strength of Indigenous women—in her own family and beyond—has guided Dyani White Hawk (Sičáŋǧu Lakota) in creating works like the "Takes Care of Them" (2019) suite.
We were honored to welcome the artist and curator to the MFA over the weekend for a Ruth and Carl J. Shapiro Celebrity Lecture about her practice. You can see her screen prints, which have recently entered the Museum's collection, in our exhibition "Marking Resilience: Indigenous North American Prints."

This beautiful sculpture was built by the Irish people in their own country to honor the American Choctaw Indian tribe. They were grateful because in 1847 the Choctaw people sent money to Ireland when they learned that Irish people were starving due to the potato famine. The Choctaw themselves were living in hardship and poverty, having recently endured the Trail of Tears.
And that is a lesson in how to be a person in this world.
Kindred Spirits is a large stainless steel outdoor sculpture in Bailick Park in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland. The shape of the feathers is intended to represent a bowl of food.

The Story
As an experienced and driven design and publishing professional— with a documented track record of managing projects, adhering to deadlines and schedules, and creating high-quality products— I’m able to leverage my experience to combine strong content presentation with an awareness of my client’s time and budgetary constraints.
My focus is on print-based design and production for educational publishers, including initial concept generation, through presentations and preparation of electronic pre-press files. An attention to detail and extreme organizational abilities ensure consistency across multi-component learning solutions.
Most of my work is customized to fit client needs whereby a strong knowledge of styles and templates, color, prepress, fonts, and other elements contribute to successful delivery of print-ready materials to the vendor.
I boast a proven strength in major layout, and presentation applications, including the Adobe Creative Suite in the Macintosh environment — fluency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop as well as a working knowledge of Illustrator, and Microsoft Office: Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
The ability to take on multiple projects, shift gears, and problem-solve in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments has awarded me the pleasure of working with some truly exciting publishers!
