Thank you Judy for your purchase and also a great cranial-sacral therapy treatment. It was a pleasure to meet you, and I feel a lot better. You are truly talented and skilled, and I hope you enjoy your treasure bag for many happy healthy years.
Designing web patches to fix my husband's Spider-Man t-shirt! Web spinner to the rescue! Thanks to Steve Pool for giving me a new project! And to the Carlisle British Heart Foundation thrift store for the embroidery floss supplies.
The Pearlies raise money for charity, displaying outfits with thousands of shell buttons. I'm just amazed to see fellow fiber artists spreading their stuff. This tradition goes back to the Victorian times. I encountered it in Greenwich, London, just outside the Cutty Sark. What a wonderful group of people!
Did you know you can troubleshoot your life with astrological jewelry? Made this Jupiter bracelet for to help him stop fighting other people's battles! It's amazing how easily astrology can identify chronic life issues and address them. My moon ring has done wonders for me!
Midway through the project! It's always good to take a breath and remind myself how much I have accomplished. 7 amulet treasure bags in the making...
Love my beautiful husband! Just finished Steve's new bracelet! Strengthening his Jupiter to improve concentration, boost communication, and minimize fighting other people's battles.
Have crochet, will travel: Hampton Court Palace! Had a wonderful time working on my treasure bags in Henry VIII's Tilt Yard (sort of like a 15th century gym!) Hampton Court Palace
Creating collaborative art with the 1950s! I was excited to rescue this pillowcase with 10 holes and bring it back to life with crocheted patches. Now this lady's lovely work will have another 70 years to be showcased for the world.
Soaking up the artistic inspiration for my early birthday at Hampton Court Palace!
I love to photograph my finished work in a beautiful natural setting! This treasure bag was just finished for the special granddaughter of a new client. Here we are Thames-side in Chiswick, just outside London, enjoying the sunset and the swans.
Amulet bag in progress! Thrifted embroidery floss, inspired by medieval wild rose embroidery and Carlisle cathedral stained glass.
Thrift outfit at Marble Hill, home of Henrietta Howard, Countess of Suffolk! First step of mending a sweater was darning six holes in the sleeve... I think the Countess would have approved since the cashmere material is so fine!
Cashmere sweater mending in process! Love the exciting moment of sewing the first patches on. Learned a brand new darning skill – Swiss darning dash for this project.
Loved making this crochet patch for my vintage Vera Bradley bag! One of 20 needed to bring it back to life. Two for the zipper, four for the lower corners, and 14 for the handles. Found at the Goodwill outlet, obviously well loved and fraying a bit around the edges.
It's the perfect size for my dragon project tin. Will be in London for 2 months, but when we're back, I'm really excited to bring this beauty back into service.
Found the gold frame on the side of the road in Dallas TX Junius Heights, one of the best foraging neighborhoods I've ever lived in! 1930s silhouettes came from the Dallas Goodwill outlet - sold at 12, and these are the 5 leftovers. Twine from The Gospel mission thrift store in Grants Pass, OR. Looks great in our Colonial Revival small space decorating scheme!
I was nervous to put this together, but my inner self assured me I could make it happen. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me with this project!
I would never have found this if my inner self hadn't pointed me to the dusty back corner! Elbow grease and the right products bring this vintage Ethan Allen hanging shelf back to life! Thanks to the ARC thrift store in Farmington, NM, for rescuing this beauty and letting me take it home.
This is the last era of solid wood furniture in American design, so rescue and love these old pieces. They will last a long time, and they come right back with a little love. Are you finding colonial revival treasures?
Anyone know where this was made? It's my Aberdeen beauty! In Edinburgh last year, my inner voice said we had to go to Aberdeen, where my ancestors had lived before emigrating to America.
Of course I wanted to pop into a thrift store when we walked by one. And I found this beautiful triple tiered enamel-on-brass tray. I think someone had used it as an ashtray because it took me hours to scrape off all the grime and muck! Fingernail to the rescue!
It actually unscrews, so it's great for travel because all the parts come apart for packing. I use it for bits and bobs for sewing projects and just to liven up my space.
I assume it's from Turkey or the Middle East? Would love if anybody has any information on stands like this. Please let me know in the comments!
Vintage tin home for my crochet project! Goodwill outlet find! I love using vintage tins to contain all the supplies for my work. It keeps the dust off, beautifies my home, and keeps everything available when I want to start working.
Don't forget scissors, needles, thread counters, and anything else you might need. Perfect for taking to the coffee shop or a talk at the local library.
This particular tin was sitting on the top of a pile at the Dallas, TX Goodwill outlet, and also contained a broken belly dancing belt. You'll see the bells from that in a future project...
The perfect breakfast cereal trivet! I found this beauty at the Durango Goodwill and instantly knew it was what I needed to protect the finish of my beautiful painted table (also from the Durango Goodwill!) Its little ball feet will keep my hot cup away from the delicate paint.
Many people avoid silver because it needs to be polished periodically to keep its luster. But I love its rich, sculptural look, and I don't mind spending time bringing my beautiful objects back to their shiny selves every once in awhile.
So don't discount the beauty of vintage silver. It's plentiful at thrift stores, beautiful and useful. Let's bring it back into style!
"I don't need another table!" That's what I told my husband (four times) until I saw this beauty in the Durango Goodwill today for 10 bucks! Then, I suddenly decide that I did need another table... this one to be precise! It matches a beautiful vintage tea cart I found for 50% off at an antique small outside of dallas, texas, about 4 months ago. I'm such a sucker for painted furniture...
This one isn't marked, but it seems to be very similar to some vintage Ethan Allen tables listed on eBay for $180 to $250, so I think I did well!
And, of course, Steve was right... I did need this table. It holds my tankard, and it shelters my crocheting and books next to our sofa. Learn to listen to my husband more...
Got it for FREE on Facebook marketplace! My first inquiry got no response, but the next day the seller messaged me: "I picked someone at random, and it was you!" Apparently, he had dozens of inquiries, and I was the lucky person he contacted when the first buyer backed out (apparently overwhelmed because it's over 7 ft tall!) Steve and I rented a van and drove to pick up our treasure. It looks amazing in our new 315 square ft studio. Pictures to come...
This was one of the spate of lucky days we had at the end of May. I think this one was the Moon conjunct my natal Jupiter!
Gorgeous Art Deco scissor from the Paris flea market. I love shopping for vintage sewing supplies when my travels. Today I'm working on sewing a denim pocket onto my estate sale apron. More pics to come...
My latest repair! Vintage Vera Bradley bag, great condition but frayed on the handles and the lower corners. Will take 18 patches to bring her back to life, but she's going to be my new knitting bag when she's done. Can't wait! Stay tuned for more project updates...
Made a new friend! Shane and I decided to celebrate at to celebrate worldwide knit in public day. We met last week at the Goodwill. Have so much in common. It was great to meet someone who shares my passion for fiber arts.
Thank you for a wonderful time talking and knitting!
We are enjoying Durango so much.
