It's a huge day for Durango Mesa Park, the City of Durango - Government and the entire region as we open 6 new trails on Durango Mesa Park this Thursday. We hope to see you at the Horse Gulch Trailhead for the ribbon cutting and guided rides to The Hub on the Mesa. Horse Gulch Trailhead parking lot will be closed, so plan to bike to the event, or park in the neighborhood and join us on foot. See you there!

Selected scenes from last weekend’s Shaw Solar campout - complete with furry friends, croquet connoisseuring, and plenty of campfire trash talk about who would be the first up the climb to Blackhawk. Grant’s weekend-long sports commentary impersonation will be echoing in our ears for many moons 🎙 So wonderful spending quality time with our people and our peoples’ people!

Little Miles Behery takes the cake for “Most adorable solar client of 2021”. He was so excited about the install and our stickered-out truck that he colored his to match. Thanks, Miles, for bringing even more joy into what we do!

Spring is right around the corner, and soon we’ll be in the thick of our installation season. Our salesman Greg has been hustling hard all winter to decrease energy bills all over SW Colorado, and now it’s installer Nate’s time to shine. Last November, we had the honor of setting up new mobile repair center with solar power. They're an awesome nonprofit organization doing free repairs, teaching skills, and building bicycling community in Navajo Nation - where there were previously no bike shops at all. To date, they've made over 400 free-of-charge bike repairs in 13 communities using the mobile repair center!

Ever wondered how, or even if, solar panels work when it snows? Time for a science lesson!

PV modules (pro lingo for solar panels) are placed for maximum sun exposure, so snow melts quickly on the panel surface itself. It's on the surrounding snowy area where things get interesting.

Snow reflects about 90% of the sun’s energy - compared to about 30% for asphalt roofing shingles - so lots of extra photons get redirected from the snow onto the panels. This means that PV modules can be every bit as effective even in stormy winters! Added bonus: The modules are also more efficient in colder temps.

The roof in this photo isn't snow covered, but you can easily see how much brighter it is up there than on a dark-surfaced roof. The mariachi band is squinting, and the PV modules are feeling the difference too!

If you pay taxes, it’s cheaper than you think! 26% cheaper, in fact, thanks to the recent extension of the Solar Investment Tax Credit. The credit can even be rolled over if it exceeds your 2020 tax liability!
