Although we are sad that this is our last ride in Black History Month 2024, we are proud that the legacies and memories will continue!

Today's ride, we recognize the company "C.R Patterson and Sons" as the first and only Black-founded and Black-owned automaker in American history.

We hope you learned about some notable pioneers in the transportation industry throughout this month that paved the way, and we look forward to the many rides we have along with each of you coming soon!

02/20/2024

Today, we take a ride through Black History and discuss Garrett Morgan! 🚦

Garrett Morgan created a new form of the traffic light in 1923, introducing the yellow traffic light to inform drivers to slow down and prepare themselves to stop.

Before Morgan's invention, drivers were instructed to only stop and go, causing many fatal collisions. After Morgan witnessed a collision, he was inspired to create change by creating the three-way signal traffic light!

We hope to see you there 😊

In honor of Black History Month, we would love to take you on a ride, sharing some amazing Black History Transportation Facts incorporating people who have paved the way to where we are today!

Do you know about The Safe Bus Company?

The Safe Bus Company operated in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, from 1926 to 1972. The company successfully provided transportation to Winston-Salem's underserved black neighborhoods due to segregation.

Photos from GoDurham's post 02/05/2024

February 4th, 2024, the renowned Rosa Parks would have been 111 years old! Rosa Parks has made many strides within the realm of Transportation, from her refusal to give up her seat on a segregated bus, which later influenced the US Supreme Court's decision to declare segregated buses unconstitutional.

GoDurham celebrates Transit Equity Week, the annual celebration of civil rights advancing to a more just and equitable transportation system for all Americans. Our commitment is to ensure that Transportation is a right and the Durham community is a priority and at the forefront of every decision to strengthen the foundation, enhance the value, and improve the quality and sustainability of neighborhoods that are necessary for a strong and diverse community!
