PAW PAW SALE SALE!

Come to Thursday 5-8pm (stay for trivia!) for a free paw paw tasting and a sale on Dinnsen's Orchard paw paw fruit, seed packs, and seedlings.

Fullsteam owner and his oldest, , will be on-site to answer questions, sample out paw paw fruit, and get y'all excited for the return of Dinnsen's Orchard, our Award-winning Belgian-style Tripel.

Still learning about North America's largest native tree fruit? Us too. But never fear: Echo has prepped some great info sheets, including recipes and planting instructions.

It's our way of spreading the legacy of our friend Wynn Dinnsen, who left this realm and his 200 tree-orchard shortly after the 2022 harvest.

We love you Wynn and we miss you.

ON EFFICIENCY

Pawpaw season approaches, and we're in Dinnsen's Orchard weekly. Soon it'll be daily.

We plan on two pawpaw beers this year: American Promise (pawpaw hazy), and the return of Dinnsen's Orchard, a Belgian Tripel ...Wynn's favorite of our pawpaw offerings.

Did you know that an early nickname of the native pawpaw was Hoosier Banana? And that, a century ago, bananas were quite the exotic luxury and pawpaws were a working class so-called "poor man's fruit" -- for many, the only means of approaching the flavor of the lauded banana?

With the advent of global commerce, technology, and refrigeration, the Hoosier Banana gave way to what we consider today's "banana" -- which itself is a far cry from the banana's true flavor in centuries past.

Efficiency often wins.

Because pawpaws spoil quickly. As you can see, they're not uniformly sized. They're inelegant, an acquired taste and hard to process.

For every prized fruit (first picture), there's ten ugly fruit (second).

Imagine if bananas had a 10% success rate.

It's hard to comprehend sometimes...this native subtropical fruit tree that likely spread because (edit, thanks Calhoun!) Mastodons and giant sloths pooped the seeds. That grows all around us. That few people notice and even fewer get to taste.

We're fortunate to be the caretakers of this peaceful orchard, and this season, we'll set aside some dates for a fruit tasting beyond the two beers we have planned. Maybe even sell some small trees so you can grow your own. Stay tuned.

It's people like you who you read these long musings, that are precisely the reason we don't all just eat bananas.

Fullsteam DRM‘s last day of food service will be THIS Wednesday, July 31 😭. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧ce 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐬, 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫, 𝐨𝐫 𝐤𝐢𝐦𝐜𝐡𝐢 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐬𝐞! After July 31, you can bring your dogs in, and your own food!

Do not worry! 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 & 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐧! We’ll keep you posted on its next location. We are so honored and humbled by the community you all have created, and it is so much more than the physical space.

Hi friends! We're officially announcing our eventual relocation and recognification of our space at 726 Rigsbee.

Why?

* production and distribution is growing and we need more space, but we're effectively out of room at the brewery,

* we have an exciting opportunity for a new Durham taproom (details to be announced) that resolve many of 726 Rigsbee's constraints, including HVAC, parking, kitchen, private party space, and outdoor seating, and

* our current landlord has proposed a rent increase that is untenable for a manufacturing facility.

It's increasing clear that, for us to be sustainable, we need to reach well beyond 726 Rigsbee, and we need to start planning for these transitions now.

KEY DATES
Our first transition will be to close down the Rigsbee kitchen. Our last day of food service will be Wednesday, July 31. Please know we're extending pay to our tenured kitchen staff well beyond their last day of work.

's final day open to the public - at least in its current footprint and configuration - will be Halloween (Thursday, October 31), with a Halloween-themed Trivia and party. Arturo tells us it's trivia #666, which is all kinds of perfect.

So in August, September, and October, we'll be going back to our roots: bring in outside food! Bring your (well-behaved) dog! Come remember, re-experience, and support this amazing space until the end of October. We'd love...we need...your support.

Currently, as structured, our lease ends in June 2025. We are working with our landlord to see if there's a future for us at 726 Rigsbee in any capacity, but their initial proposal was *extraordinarily* expensive. At this point, we don't know.

This gives us from November 2024 to June 2025 to work at 726 Rigsbee as a production-only space as we finalize our plans to grow our production footprint beyond our current footprint.

Meanwhile, it's business as usual in production and distribution and .

We'll be heads down on the hard work with limited social media engagement. Come say hello, ask questions, and support us and our staff as we prepare for new adventures.

Construction? What construction?

As all the development reaches its final stages -- at least for now-- it's time to tell a new story.

Can you help us write it?

If it's been a while, come back to Rigsbee. No joke, there's a decent amount of parking now that much of the construction labor has moved on to other projects. Plus, it's summer and generally mellow.

Tonight we tapped a lovely little pale ale with North Carolina blueberries - a collaboration with our pals Beer Study and Atomic Clock Brewing. We're calling it The Gang Brews a Blueberry Beer.

Come grab a pint and some tots. Wander the social district. Walk around the block. Pull up a bar seat.

On this date in 2016, a young man named Brandon Edwards took on job as a delivery driver for Fullsteam.

Today - eight years later - he's our longest-tenured employee, Director of Sales, and a friend to me and to so many...both here at the brewery and out in the market.

Like we've come to expect, today Brando is heads down, selling beer. "Just another day in the office," we can hear him say.

So while he may be heads down, we're all raising our hands and high-fiving an awesome human being.

Thank you for eight years, young man Brandon Edwards!
