Wake County Animal Center has put in an urgent call to relieve overcrowding at their shelter. In support of this, we are waiving the one time pet fee at all of our pet-friendly communities in the Raleigh-Durham area until September 7th. Whether you are a Cortland resident or not, if you can open your home to one of these pets in need, please visit them today!

Sometimes, resident events mean pool parties, mixology classes, food trucks, and game nights. At Cortland Cary, they can also mean story time with Cortie. 🐾 📖

Our associates going above and beyond for current and future residents alike is one of the experiences Cortland prides ourselves most on providing. This would be a much longer post if we tried to include each of those moments, so we wanted to at least share one of the many ways some of our amazing associates have risen to the occasion and gone beyond it.

Meet Tyler, Assistant Community Manager at Cortland West Plano. Not only is he talented at his job, but he has made a memorable impression on countless people at his community with his acts of kindness, such as buying a resident new string lights, hand delivering Cortland baby onesies to expecting residents, and even braving a tornado watch with two umbrellas to keep a future resident dry on their way back to their car!

There's always a great time to be had at our community resident events! Cortie recently stopped by Cortland at the Village for their annual .5k event. He got to try his hand at minigolf, axe throwing, and made some great friends!

Last week, Cortland associates wrapped up logging their miles in this year's 53-Mile Pride Ride Challenge in support of the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization focused on su***de prevention and crisis intervention for LGBTQ+ youth. In honor of Pride Month, many associates spent June walking, running, biking, and hiking their way to the 53-mile mark to raise awareness for the Trevor Project's cause, and some shared what participating meant to them:

Cori W. | 60 miles
"I completed this challenge by walking with my kids, walking in different communities, running on the treadmill, and completing the Stonewall Columbus Pride 5K. This gave me the chance to “walk in the shoes” of local teens we met during my time volunteering with Star House, a non-profit organization that supports at-risk LGBTQ+ homeless youth who walk over 13 miles daily."

"The Trevor Project was instrumental in helping a dear friend through their most challenging moments, providing crucial support and resources. The 53 miles not only allowed me to raise awareness and contribute to their life-saving work, but also gave me time to reflect on the importance of mental health and the impact of community support."

"I participated in this challenge to support mental health awareness, particularly among youth and marginalized communities, including the LGBTQ+ community and those affected by systemic racism. Through this challenge, I aimed to raise awareness about the importance of physical activity and highlight the global mental health crisis."

Today, we commemorate the day that word of the Emancipation Proclamation reached enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, TX.

In celebration, our associate resource group, The Coalition, held a wonderful lunch with food catered by local Black-owned restaurant, The Busy Bee Cafe.

We wish all of our associates, residents, and followers a happy Juneteenth!

Huge thank you and shout-out to Landmark Landscapes for all of their volunteered time and commitment to helping serve our community! During this year’s Cortland Commitment Week, Landmark’s team donated hours of their time and many pallets of mulch to our non-profit partners, Roof Above & Family Promise of the Triangle. Without their help, we would not have been able to accomplish as much as we did for our partners. Thank you, Landmark!

May was full of resident events that brought friends, food, fun, and even a puppy prom to our residents' front doors. Here's to many more in June!

Cortie's been living the high life at our communities lately! 🐾

Whether he's keeping our associates company, joining up with residents for events, or just enjoying all the amenity spaces in our communities, he's truly been living it up and hopes you're all having a great time too. Keep an eye out for him at your community!

Cortie had such an amazing time making friends with all the dapper dogs at the Annual Cortland at the Village Puppy Prom! He had the opportunity to get his pic taken with the namesake of the Patches Bark Park who got so excited he couldn't help but let out a big old howl.

Cortie loved seeing all the dog's (and their owners') amazing looks as they walked the red carpet. Congrats again to Andres and Peach on being crowned Puppy Prom king and queen!

2024 marks the 10th year of Cortland's annual week of volunteering, Cortland Commitment Week. Throughout last week, Cortland associates across the globe took time out to give back to their local communities and to help Cortland's mission to end homelessness. Cortlandians worked with food banks preparing and packaging meals, with shelters maintaining the buildings and grounds, donation centers sorting items, and much much more.

We couldn't be more proud of the teamwork and dedication to doing the right thing for the right reason.

Our service teams aren't just committed to going above and beyond for our residents, but the local wildlife too! This morning, when a resident of Cortland Powell informed Service Technicians, Timothy and Darren, of a mother duck hanging out by a storm drain, they jumped into action.

Upon investigation, they discovered that the mama's ducklings had fallen down the storm drain. Fortunately, they were able rescue all seven ducklings and returned them to their mother.

Today, our very own Jared has embarked on his next big career adventure! As we bid farewell to him after 7 incredible years, we’re filled with both sadness and gratitude. He’s been the heart, soul and guiding force behind our community, touching countless lives, a beacon of warmth and support for all who call this place home. From organizing unforgettable resident events to lending a helping hand in every situation, he’s truly been the mayor of our little corner of the world. As he embarks on new journeys, we carry with us the memories of his kindness and dedication, knowing that his legacy will continue to shape our community for years to come. We would love for you to leave a message for him in the comments below! ❤️
