Itchy Dog Productions
Itchy Dog Productions is me. I'm Kirk Werner, and I am a freelance illustrator and graphic designer.
It's been a while since I posted any completed logo projects, which is not to say I haven't completed any logo projects. I just haven't posted them here. To remedy that, here's a logo that the Itchy Dog scratched out for Stringfellow Tailored. Owner Denise Stringfellow does amazing custom leather work, specializing in "chaps, chinks and leggins". She wanted a logo that conjures up the sense of a brand (in the literal sense) with a hint of stringed instrument flair because that holds personal meaning to her as well. You should really check out her work.

Bad kerning is the one thing that keeps the Itchy Dog awake at night.

I post this every year at this time. Graphic designers know ALL about kerning and tracking; it means to adjust the space between letters and across the entire word for maximum clarity. As many people will be putting up "flickering lights" over the next few weeks, let this be a reminder not to underestimate the power of a graphic designer!
The Itchy Dog recently scratched out a logo for a recently-certified yoga instructor who is a longtime resident of the Evergreen State.
The Itchy Dog recently scratched out a new logo for a repeat client, for their hay growing farm in Kittitas County. They wanted something very simple that resembled a brand, that communicated the words Noble (for another operation they own growing Noble firs), and River (for a dog training business they also own, River Dog Canine Coaching).
The Itchy Dog scratched out recent logo projects for a variety of clients, including Peak Mental Health (a Montana-based mental health counseling clinic) and LEAP Education (a proprietary Lego STEM programs for PreK - High School Robotics, as well as Art and Music (STEAM).
Scratching out a logo that meets (or exceeds) the expectations of the client is the paramount goal of the Itchy Dog. And while not every logo design is going to scream, "Wow!" the client loved this. It's for a website that provides a unique online identity for folks to upload all the tools necessary in a job search: resume, cover letter, LinkedIn account, and other social medias.
The Itchy Dog recently scratched out a logo for a Montana non-profit organization that develops programs for businesses in the food an agriculture industry. The name, Food Alliance of Rural Montana, makes for a clever and appropriate acronym, don't you think?
The itchy dog recently scratched out a new logo for a newly-launched business by a guy with lots of previous experience as a carpenter. The logo may look simple, but the process to get there entailed exploring several different designs. Almost always, less is more.
The Itchy Dog recently had his mower serviced by Dan's Small Engine Repair in Carnation, WA. Then, he scratched out a new logo for them. Cool how things work sometimes...
A short while go the Itchy Dog scratched out a logo for a patent paralegal firm. Apparently the patent process can be daunting, so they provide guidance. Like a compass, which is, in turn, a key element in their logo.
Day 4 of the Itchy Dog Productions ongoing Christmas Party. Admittedly it's been a bit slow, but today's offerings are a game changer. I can feel it.
Every day this week has been an ongoing, Open House Christmas Party here at Itchy Dog Productions, where guests/clients stop by for good cheer and merriment. Actually it has been a little slow—we're still waiting for the first folks to stop by.
But it's only Wednesday. Things should pick up at any moment.
While working on a logo for a client, the Itchy Dog scratched out several variations of a fish head design. While this one was not chosen, his Itchiness liked it enough that he wanted to see how it might look with a body attached using a non-traditional totem-esque style. Not sure what will become of the design but it was fun to explore something vastly different than what the Itchy Dog has done before. Maybe it's time for a tattoo.
If you see this ad making the rounds, do not be alarmed--it's referring to the wrong itchy dog. As you were.
The Itchy Dog recently had the pleasure of creating a new logo for the long-established Cascade Valley Figure Skating Club. It was a challenging project and the club is quite happy with the finished result. Another creative itch has been scratched.

This brings back memories from when the Itchy Dog was just a pup.
If you're over 40, this will bring back memories. If you're under 30, it might shock you.
Something new for something old: Recently the Itchy Dog scratched out a new logo for a long-established product that will be manufactured and sold by a new company, under a new name.
The Itchy Dog is pleased to have been entrusted with designing a new logo for an established fly fishing guide business, Sea Run Pursuits (they pursue sea run rainbow trouts, aka steelhead). Owner, John Hicks
Wow, that was fast! Designed these direct mail cards for a local pizza company on Monday, handed the files off to the local printer yesterday, and it arrived in today's mail.
The Itchy Dog would like to thank his long-time client for the thoughtful Holiday gift. The Itchy Dog is also wondering if he has to share it with Mark, and if so, who is he?
Yes, Virginia, there's still time to order your Christmas cards...

The Itchy Dog recently had the privilege to work with the local Riverview School District on a refresh of the existing logo. The goal was to honor the existing design while refreshing and simplifying the logo. For the consideration of the public viewer, the new logo is featured on the left; the old logo on the right. Thanks for looking.
Not long ago the Itchy Dog was approached with a logo design project. Said project also involved conception of the company name, which is based on the owner's initials: L.L.A.
The Itchy Dog recently scratched out (and cut out) these cartoon owls for a 3rd grade teacher's classroom in which there is a corner dedicated to reading. The theme is "Dive into a great book!" Thus the snorkel theme. No fee was charged as the Itchy Dog has a soft spot for educators. That, and the teacher is my daughter.
Just received this retail box for a game called "Monkeys Jumping on the Bed" which features illustrations I did a few months ago. I never tire of seeing my work in print!
Recently the Itchy Dog was tasked with designing a logo for a Seattle-based company that does marine construction. They've been in business for decades but never had a logo, until now. Their flagship vessel is the MV Sea Horse, FYI.
The Itchy Dog has been tasked with creating a new logo for the marine construction company that operates this cool vessel. Wish I could take it out for a spin. You know—in the name of field research.
Today's Throwback Thursday commemorates the 125th Birthday of Washington State University. The Itchy Dog has always been proud of his first commissioned logo design, for Pullman Transit in 1985.
The Itchy Dog recently hired a new office assistant. Like her predecessor, she is overworked and underpaid.

Sometimes a client just wants a simple business card refresh. Take for example Mountain High Dog Training, a long-established business that had been using a simple black and white business card for years. The Itchy Dog reworked the layout using their existing "logo" and added some color: It's just like teaching an old dog some new tricks, sort of.
Another logo recently completed by the Itchy Dog is one near and dear to his eyes, and heart: Old Guys Flies. Read more about it on the Itchy Dog's website:

The Itchy Dog has been busy scratching out a couple of new logos recently. First up is a logo for a new restaurant in the Itchy Dog's hometown: Rojo's Mexican Fresh.
