Congratulations to Jessie Heise, RN, for receiving the DAISY Foundation Award for Extraordinary Nurses at Howard Young Medical Center (HYMC). This prestigious award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the superhuman efforts nurses perform every day.

Jessie, who works in the HYMC Emergency Department, was nominated by a psychotherapist for her exceptional care of a patient in crisis.

The nomination reads, in part: "I spent 6 hours in the ER with my patient who was having suicidal ideations. Jessie was kind, supportive, and gentle. When my patient expressed feeling unheard, Jessie reassured her, saying, 'Of course you matter. It doesn’t matter if this is the 1st time you’re seeking help or the 100th, what you say and how you feel matters.' My patient felt validated and heard, which meant so much to see. Jessie embodies the strength, compassion, and determination needed to be an excellent nurse. She, along with others, saved the life of a very misunderstood and lost young girl. Thank you, Jessie, you may not remember us, but we will always remember you and your kindness."
