Wilson's Antiques & Curiosities

I’m Wilson Curry and welcome to my latest venture, Wilson’s Antiques & Curiosities! In 1975 my wife and I founded Williston General Store in Williston, NY.

Over the course of my 45 years as an auctioneer and collector, I have developed considerable knowledge that I would like to share in taking you on an entertaining, informative, and often times humorous adventure into the world of antiques and curiosities! In 1977 we founded Williston Auctions, a family-owned, full service auction and appraisal company specializing in antiques, estate contents, col

Welcome back everyone! I have another interesting piece of mail someone sent me many years ago that I'd like to share with you.

Some of you may remember when I hosted a segment on Channel 4 Live every Sunday morning in the mid-90's, called "What's It Worth? with Wilson Curry". What we recently discovered is that we have suitcases full of old mail, sent to me back when I was hosting that show, from people sending in photos like this one, asking what their treasured family heirlooms are worth. So now we are sharing them with you! Thanks for watching!

This is a chalkware bar marquee advertising Koehler’s beer. It states emphatically that there is no better beer. It measures 10.5" wide x 6" tall.

This is a Dutch Twins Cream Filled Wafer Box. It is made of heavy cardboard and lithograph paper. It was used as a counter display for Cream Filled Waffers made by the Holland American Wafer Co. These boxes are rare today due to the fact that they are made of cardboard and not wood, so many were thrown out or burned after being emptied. This box is about 100 years old and valued at $350-$400.

This is Vintage Fire Call Box made by Gamewell from the 1940's -1950's. It is completely original, non-refurbished and in beautiful and working condition. If you are interested in purchasing, please comment or message!
Asking Price: $475

Here we have a Seagram’s Bar or Counter Display. The purpose of the figure was to advertise Seagram’s Whiskey in bowling alley bars. This particular dates back to the late 1940’s - early 1950’s. On the front in stenciled lettering it says, “ Say Seagram’s And Be Sure”.

Here we have a walnut cased table top radio circa 1930's. Manufactured by the Air King Radio Corp., it measures 11" high x 15" wide. The brass label on the front under the dial displays the name "Sky King". This was all you had to listen to music and stay in touch with the world before that evil television was invented. 😂

This is a Niagara Bakery Crackers & Biscuits box. It is made of wood and lithograph paper and would have been used as a counter display for those products. This one is in outstanding original condition and therefore I would value it at $450.

Photos from Wilson's Antiques & Curiosities's post 01/20/2021

This is store counter pretzel jar from the turn of the century. It is embossed “Property of John’s Cream Pretzels, Made in Buffalo, Always Fresh“. These are very rare to find with their original glass lids! They were loaned to the shop keepers by the Pretzel Company for displaying and dispensing their product. With the original glass lid I would value this item at $750.

The Japanned Cupboard: "Japanning" is a word that originates from the 17th century and describes a type of finish that originated as a European imitation of Asian lacquerwork. What do you think?

This wooden stenciled sign advertises rubber paint as being the best paint in the world. I’m inclined to think that when this sign was made , rubber paint would’ve been a very worthwhile product. The sign dates from the late 1800's. There is photo proof in the archives of the Wales Historical Society showing this sign adorning the entrance to the old covered Bridge Inn Wales Hollow. It measures 29" x 48". We are very pleased to be the curators of this historical piece of local advertising.

This is a Fillmore Taxi Cab Marquee from the 1950’s. Heavy plastic and loaded with nostalgia! I would value this item at about $300.

THROWBACK THURSDAY!
Here are some more clips from the PBS television program that I hosted and co-produced called Antiques Country shot at The Adirondacks Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, NY in 1999.

This is an eight drawer Spice Cabinet! It has all the original finish including stenciled lettering noting the contents of each drawer. These were very popular from the 1880's through the early 1900's. They could be hung on the wall or sit on the counter or table as shown. People love old things with drawers!
