SHOW DESCRIPTION:
One of literature’s most enduring young heroines, Meg Murry, joins forces with Charles Wallace, Calvin O’Keefe, Mrs. Whatsit and more to battle the forces of evil so she can rescue her father, save humanity, and find herself. In the end, we know two things for sure: 1. Love CAN overcome evil and 2. There IS such a thing as a tesseract.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
All child characters may be played by adults if casting requires.
All roles beyond Meg, Charles Wallace, Calvin, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who may be cast or doubled from the ensemble.
Meg Murry (Female, 13 and up) – Meg struggles to fit in with her peers. She is very smart, but lacks self confidence and is impatient and quick to anger. Our protagonist, she struggles to overcome these hurdles as she sets out to save her father with her brother Charles Wallace and friend Calvin along for the ride. Meg’s part requires her to be in every scene, so this is a very line-heavy role.
Charles Wallace (Male, 13 and up) – Charles Wallace is Meg’s genius little brother. He is capable of reading minds and understands creatures much better than his sister does, despite being quite a bit younger. He is the only character in the show that is aware of the ensemble’s presence.
Calvin O’Keefe (Male, 15 and up) – Calvin is a popular classmate of Meg’s who tags along with the Murry children’s adventure. He demonstrates a capability for love, affection, and introspection that helps to guide Meg through their journey.
Mrs. Whatsit (Any gender, 30 and up) – The youngest of the three celestial beings who accompany the children on their adventure. Because of her age, she is able to speak just as a normal human would. She is the main caretaker and guide of the children throughout our action, and gets them started on their journey.
Mrs. Who (Any gender, 40 and up) – The second of the three celestial beings who accompany the children on their adventure. She usually speaks in quotations from famous thinkers and writers because she finds it too difficult to craft her own sentences.
Mrs. Which (Any gender, 50 and up) – The oldest of the three celestial beings who accompany the children on their adventure. Her unconventional speech is characterized by many capitalized words, with the first consonants being repeated several times.
Mr. Murry / Father (Male, 30 and up) – Meg’s & Charles Wallace’s father, a physicist who works for a government agency on experiments with travel through space-time. During his work, he is captured and imprisoned on the dark planet of Camazotz, leading the children on their quest to rescue him. May double as other characters/ensemble.
Mrs. Murry / Mother (Female, 30 and up) – Meg and Charles Wallace’s mother, an experimental biologist. She is a loving mother who cooks meals for her family and writes letters to her missing husband every night. The quintessential “perfect mother”. May double as other characters/ensemble.
Aunt Beast (Female, 13 and up) – This creature of the planet Ixchel cares for Meg along her journey to save her father. A nurturing soul. May double as other characters/ensemble.
Mr. Jenkins (Male, 30 and up) – Meg’s cold and unfeeling high school principal. May double as other characters/ensemble.
Greek Chorus / Ensemble (Any gender, 13 and up) – The members of the ensemble will act as a Greek Chorus of sorts, narrating and acting out our characters’ feelings, objects, and surroundings. These actors will be on stage in nearly every scene to set the stage for our location. Examples of other characters that will be played by the ensemble are IT (the disembodied brain that controls all inhabitants of Camazotz), THE BLACK THING (a cold and dark shadow that symbolizes the evil forces our protagonist must fight against), HAPPY MEDIUM, MAN WITH THE RED EYES, MRS. BUNCOMBE, SANDY, DENNIS MURRAY, PRINCIPAL, BULLY, and more.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:
Paige Batt is thrilled to be making her directorial debut with Theatre in Hamlin Park, having previously assistant directed two murder mysteries set on the Arcade & Attica Railroad. On stage, Paige has been seen with Aurora Players many times, as well as with Rocking Horse Productions, the Lockport Palace Theatre, American Repertory Theater of WNY, Buffalo Chrysalis Theatre, Niagara Regional Theatre Guild, and Buffalo United Artists.
After moving out to Los Angeles for a few years, Paige learned that though film acting is a fabulous and challenging medium, her heart truly lay with theatre. Theatre introduced her not only to a fulfilling and worthwhile hobby, but her closest friends and husband as well!
Outside of theatre, Paige works for the Veterans Benefits Administration and is a singer, writer, and avid reader, and can often be found spending time with her husband and five animals – or with a book in hand.
Aurora Players is looking for a director for their summer theatre program!

All things musical at EAHS
One of the most fulfilling things about the musical program at EAHS is watching more than 120 students work together to produce a tangible work of entertainment. These students pour endless hours into what boils down to three hours of amusement to the theater goer, but beyond that - the memories and the friendships that are created among the cast, crew and pit are beyond tangible. That’s why we wanted to create this page - a place where people in the community can visit and see our students hard at work creating something beyond themselves.
