We’re here!!!!!!!!!!!!
Getting closer!
When you think of GEC do you just think ‘KITENGA’? It’s understandable!
But did you know that GEC now leads the Ally Funder Alliance? It’s our way of expanding our successful model supporting local leaders doing girl-centered work.
Today, GEC Executive Director Anne Wadsworth met with Solidarity for Her Education and Empowerment Organisation - SHEEO Tanzania (SHEEO) based in Mwanza, Tanzania. (Check them out here: https://sheeongo.or.tz/) What a great and fired up team they have - they know the work they are doing is changing lives - and they want to do more of it!
Board Secretary William Ilembo Johnson shared “The work we do is 100% against what the culture wants - beliefs like thinking every woman has to become a wife.”
They have a growth mindset and it is inspiring to hear their vision of where they want to go - and how many more girls’ lives could be touched.
Looking for your next opportunity to make a difference?
Committed to gender equity and making the world a better place for girls?
YOU may GEC's next Director of Program Operations!

Great ‘first day’ in Arusha. But am tired so will post on it tomorrow 🙂 Here’s a peak behind the scenes. So dinner from a Thai Restaurant ( so good) , staying at an airbnb, (it’s also where Jane Goodall stays!!) (but sadly have yet to meet her). Catching up on emails and news while listening to local mosque evening prayers, and, the world’s loudest bullfrog in the fish pond next door. And yes, that is a glass of South African white wine in a beautiful made glass 😉
And off again! First stop Amsterdam. Then to Kilimanjaro 🏔️Enjoying a nice layover now in one of my favorite airports - Detroit. Getting my steps in before the long haul 🏃♀️➡️Hope you’ll follow the trip - the grand finale being graduation!!! 🇹🇿🌍

GEC bids a fond farewell to our amazing Communication and Fundraising Intern, Fatoumata Jaiteh, as she has completed her master’s degree from Brandeis University and heads home to The Gambia, West Africa, where she will work with Starfish International.
Fatoumata brought a unique perspective to her work at GEC, having faced many barriers to education growing up in Africa. Her extensive background in non-profit development and social justice, with a particular focus on girls and women made her the perfect fit for GEC!
We wish her the best and we know that she will use her considerable talents to make the world better, particularly for women and girls!

wHERe In The World - Elle Races as a Mom
Even the most accomplished among us can have doubts. Elle Purrier St. Pierre, an American Olympic middle-distance runner, shared her self doubts in an interview about her pregnancy and motherhood journey as a female athlete recently.
Having broken two of her U.S records since her return to the field, Elle’s story symbolizes the renewed determination of many youths around the world. As we celebrate International Youth Day today, we applaud all the youths worldwide for rising from barriers and leading the way.
Read her full story here https://time.com/6996464/elle-purrier-st-pierre-olympics-interview-paris/and and watch out for the next wHERe in the World story on our social media channels.
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY
Here are some of our favorites from female writers. Their powerful words have shaped many of us. While we can't support all the Kitenga students in traveling the world, we can always bring the world to them through books. These books boost their reading and writing skills, creativity, and knowledge of the world around them.
