Ever hear your therapist say “sit with your feelings” but have no clue exactly what that means or how to do it? Love this great explanation from on where to start with noticing, naming, and experiencing your emotions. You’ve got to feel it to heal it.
Healing is hard work but you’re worth the effort.
Why do values matter so much when it comes to anxiety and OCD? Values give us motivation (what’s the point of doing the uncomfortable work) and direction (what do you want your life to look like without anxiety and OCD in the driver’s seat). Check out these tips from on how to get started with values and OCD recovery!
Some things to remember this pride month and beyond. 🏳️🌈

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: for most of us food IS inherently emotional. It’s pleasure, social connection, creativity, tradition, culture, and so much more. Emotional eating is not the problem, shame is. Food meets both emotional and physical needs. When we embrace physical AND emotional nourishment with intention and self-compassion, food stops having so much power. It becomes something we can turn to in joy or sadness, but not the only thing.
For all the moms today. 💛
Did you grow up with the fear that having too many needs or feelings would make you less loveable? Don’t believe the lie. Voice your needs. Take up space. Lean into your feelings. You are infinitely loveable just as you are.
We had so much fun last night at East Lansing Public School’s mental health carnival! We love to see such a huge outpouring of support for mental wellness and getting to touch base with other wonderful groups, and agencies that provide mental health resources for kids and families in our community. And making a mess with sensory slime was fun too (sorry parents 😬😅)!
Honoring all the pain and grief and loss and hope during National Infertility Awareness Week. You’re not alone. 🧡
Come make some sensory slime and grab some Rooted swag this Wednesday at East Lansing Public School’s Mental Health & Wellness Summit!
Our team had a fantastic time learning how to (attempt) to decorate cookies with the wonderful ! We’ll take any excuse to hang out together, drink coffee, eat delicious cookies, and support local, female-owned small businesses!
It all ebbs and flows. When it’s good, stay present and allow yourself to enjoy it. When it’s hard and messy and painful, remember that it’s not forever and that you’ll find a way to write beauty and joy and purpose back into your story again. You’ve got this. ✨

Rooted counselors Becky Weinberg, Jillian Adams, and Shalonda James-Garza had a wonderful time meeting families and handing out maternal mental health-focused gifts at Northstar Doulas 2nd Annual Community Baby Shower, serving BIPOC expectant families in Ingham County. We are SO grateful for the amazing work and advocacy provide in our community!
Let’s break it down. In OCD, obsessions are sticky thought loops our brains gets stuck in when seeking 100% certainty (which, you know, is impossible). Compulsions are anything we do physical or MENTAL to try and reduce uncertainty.
What can a mental compulsion look like? Well, almost anything (the key question will always come back to: are you doing this ritual or compulsion to try and reduce uncertainty because it feels too difficult to tolerate). But some common examples are mental reviewing, rehearsing future scenarios, reassurance seeking, playing out worst case scenarios/catastrophizing, compulsive praying, trying to neutralize “bad thoughts” with “good thoughts,” and compulsive self-criticism.
Wondering if your sticky anxiety and thought loops might actually be OCD? Reach out today to connect with an ERP-trained, OCD-specialized therapist!

Forget hustle and bustle, we’re all about the dilly and dally. ✌️Remember work doesn’t work without play.
So much of your hard work and progress can’t be seen or measured but you can feel and you live it and it counts just as much. Give yourself some credit! ✨
We love and they love supporting local women in small business! Check out their spotlight on Rooted’s founder Annie Giupponi, LMSW, PMH-C focusing on the experience of being a woman, a mom, and a small business owner and what impact she hopes to have through Rooted Counseling.
