The story of Leo Frank: a Brooklyn-raised Jewish man living in Atlanta who was wrongfully convicted of the r**e and murder of his thirteen-year-old employee, Mary Phagan, in 1913. The musical was nominated for two Tonys including Best Musical Revival.

The momentous case drew national attention to anti-Semitism and was pivotal to the founding of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) as well as the reviving of the Ku Klux Klan in the South.

What a wonderful Shabbat in the Park we had on Friday! Rabbi Schlesinger and Hazzan Zakarin led a beautiful Tot Shabbat and Kabbalat Service for us. We enjoyed a musical service, good food, good company and no rain! Thank you to the Village of East Rockaway for hosting us.

HERJC is fortunate to have incredible leadership. We welcome these dedicated people to their new roles!

Join us in welcoming Jason Melzer as our new HERJC President, Jaime Ezratty as a new Vice President, Elliott Polinsky as a new Member of the Board of Directors and Security Chair, and Aryeh Klonsky as a new Member of the Board of Directors.

We had such great success at our Board of Directors meeting where we as a congregation passed our 2024-2025 budget, renewed our amazing Rabbi Schlesinger's contract, and voted on our Slate of Officers and Board of Directors - including our new President Jason Melzer!

We hope the community will join us for the Installation TONIGHT, Friday, June 21 at 6:00 PM at a moving Kabbalat Shabbat Service, followed by a dinner of Israeli food.

Mazal Tov to our 2023-2024 HERJC Religious School graduates and continuing students!

We hope you have a wonderful Summer and we will see you again in the Fall!

Rabbi Schlesinger and Hazzan Zakarin spent time on Sunday teaching our students about Yads!

They brought out the Torah and showed them how to use a Yad and why we use a Yad.

The students then created their own beautiful beaded Yads which they will use for their B'nei Mitzvah!

We had such a fun adventure to celebrate the end of the year for USY and Gesher!

We started at HERJC and followed clues all the way to Dave & Busters where we played all sorts of fun games!

Have a wonderful Summer and we'll see you again in the Fall!

Kitah Gimmel and Dalet created their own baby dolls as we learned about how babies are named in Judaism.

We had a beautiful ceremony for our classmates and explained how we came up with their names and what qualities we would want them to carry on.

Mazal Tov to Heidi Kreit for receiving the HERJC Woman of Achievement award at the BQLI Region Woman of Achievement Gala yesterday evening! What a wonderful and well-deserved honor!

HERJC marched down 5th Avenue in the Israel Parade yesterday!

We had such an informative discussion with David White, Associate Regional Director of Jewish Outreach for the Anti-Defamation League NY/NJ yesterday evening at HERJC! He shared with us what we as a community can do to help support the efforts of combating antisemitism on college campuses.

HERJC has always supported Myles' need to balance his Jewish education and heritage with who he is an athlete over the years. This weekend Myles was fortunate to have the opportunity to play for Team Israel in the Heritage Cup. Mazel tov to Myles King on this accomplishment!

Rabbi Michel Schlesinger met with Ofir Akunis, the new Consul General of Israel in New York, this morning.

During their conversation, they discussed the situation on American campuses, the hostages held in Gaza, and the Israel-Hamas conflict.

At the end of the meeting, Rabbi Schlesinger wished Consul Akunis success in representing the State of Israel in New York during these challenging times.

We had a wonderful time at our Yom Ha'atzmaut IsraelFest celebration yesterday evening!

Our students had such a fun time at our archaeological dig and we all enjoyed a delicious meal while we celebrated Israel.

Thank you to everyone who made this event a huge success and to everyone for joining us for an amazing community event!

Join us THIS TUESDAY, May 14 at 5:30 PM at HERJC for our Yom Ha'atzmaut celebration!

We will have an archaeological dig, art projects, a station to write letters to Israeli soldiers, food, wine tasting, Israeli music, and more!

We had such a beautiful 2024 Sisterhood Torah Fund event yesterday evening where our 2024 Torah Fund Honoree, Lisa Cohen, shared such an inspiring and moving message.

Join us NEXT MONDAY, May 13 at Temple Beth El at 7:00 PM for a Yom HaAtzmaut Joint Event with Congregation Sons of Israel, HERJC, Temple Hillel, The Sephardic Temple, and Temple Beth El.

We will screen, Screams Before Silence, a documentary film on the violence committed by Hamas on October 7, produced by Sheryl Sandberg, former COO of Meta.

We will also be joined by special guest speaker, Israel Nitzan, former Israeli Consul General in NY with time for Q&A.

We had a wonderful Religous School Model Seder on Sunday!

Our youngest students learned the importance of Passover and the Passover Seder while our older students helped Hazzan Zakarin lead the lesson.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a lovely morning with family, friends, and community. And a special thank you to all of our amazing Religious School teachers and staff for making this event a huge success!
