On our daily commute to and from our Birch Street shop, we often take a gander north to see how our friend’s little yard prairie is taking hold at this time of year.
We certainly appreciated this opportunity to work with Eau Claire County Highway Department on this energy project serving our county!
Exciting news, our new highway building is nearing completion!
The new building will be home to the Eau Claire County Highway Department, Eau Claire County Emergency Management Emergency Operations Center, and the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Eau Claire County Meals on Wheels kitchen.
But what's even cooler is that the building operates sustainably!
This facility marks a significant milestone in the county's journey towards achieving 100% renewable energy use by 2050. The solar array and geothermal loop system make it the first county-owned facility with on-site solar generation.
Through interdepartmental collaboration and a grant application submitted by our Eau Claire County Recycling & Sustainability department, we were awarded a PSC Energy Innovation Grant to cover installation costs for a solar array. The County partnered with local solar experts Next Step Energy, llc to install the solar array. The building will be 65% more energy-efficient than a baseline facility and is estimated to save about 113 tons of CO2 emissions each year.
We can't wait for you to see the finished product and join us in taking pride in the environmental strides we're making as a community.
