Dr. aBa Mbirika, professor of mathematics, and his UW-Eau Claire research student Morgan Fiebig attended the Underrepresented Students in Topology and Algebra Research Symposium (USTARS), held April 20-21 in Iowa City, Iowa.
Fiebig presented her research poster, “Patterns in the Pisano period and entry points of linear recurrence sequences modulo m,” at the symposium.
USTARS is a space dedicated to furthering the success of underrepresented students and seeks to broaden participation in the mathematical sciences by cultivating research and mentoring networks.

Congratulations to Devin Sobottka for being named a 2024 Goldwater Scholar! Devin, one of our McNair Scholars, is an ACS biochemistry major.
The Goldwater Scholarship Program honors Senator Barry Goldwater, who served his country for 56 years as a soldier and statement. This scholarship is awarded to sophomore and junior college students who show "exceptional exceptional promise of becoming this Nation’s next generation of research leaders in these fields.”

Congratulations to McNair Alum Madilyn Vetter, who just got an article published in the Journal of the Torrey Botanical Society with Assistant Professor of Biology Nora Mitchell!
The article, titled “Assessment of Leaf Defense Hypotheses at the Intraspecific Scale in Three Helianthus (Asteraceae) Species,” is a continuation of Madilyn's research with the McNair Program and was also written with former UW - Eau Claire students Michael Bylander, Thu Nguyen, Lydia McNabb, Aleks Leonardson and Chloe Meyer.
