Barn inlets are vital for maintaining proper ventilation and air quality within livestock facilities. They enable the inflow of fresh air, diluting pollutants such as ammonia, dust, and moisture, and replacing stale air that can negatively impact animal health and productivity with fresh air.

♨️ 𝚃𝚎𝚖𝚙𝚎𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚞𝚛𝚎 𝚁𝚎𝚐𝚞𝚕𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗:
Inlets are important for regulating barn temperature. During hot weather, properly positioned and sized inlets facilitate the intake of cooler outside air, helping reduce heat stress in animals. In colder conditions, inlets can be adjusted to limit cold drafts and maintain a comfortable environment.

Ventilation is a critical aspect of dairy farming, with profound benefits for both the cows and the overall operation. Adequate ventilation in dairy barns ensures a comfortable and healthy environment for the cows, contributing to improved milk production and animal well-being.

Adequate airflow helps dissipate harmful gases such as ammonia and carbon dioxide, which can accumulate in poorly ventilated barns. We typically want to see airspeeds at 3’ from the bedding to range from 5 to 7 mph. This not only enhances the cows’ respiratory health, but also minimizes the risk of diseases, while creating a cooling effect leading to a more productive herd during heat stress.
