Please be mindful when choosing footwear for yourself and the littles!
Babies' feet are broad, flat, and widest at the tips of the toes to help provide a stable foundation as the child learns how to balance, stand, and walk.
The number of bones in the feet will fluctuate from 22 up to 45 and back down to 26 by the time the bones ossify (harden) into a fully mature foot sometime between 13 and 18 years of age.
Like most parts of maturing, feet develop with consistent use and experience. That's why it's important to consider kids' footwear and what it does to their feet.
Feet are meant to FEEL the ground. Over 200,000 nerve endings in the bottom of each foot send precise signals to the brain and back, communicating important information about the terrain and how to traverse it. While shoes are meant to be protective, masking the feets' ability to feel with thick-soled shoes might not be the best approach to long-term foot health.
We prefer kids' shoes to allow for as much natural movement and feel as possible. Kids' shoes should be:
👣 Foot-shaped (widest at tips of toes)
👣 Flat
👣 Thin
👣 Flexible
(Same as adults!)

Preach about 👣❣️
In case y’all thought I was still helplessly sore on the floor after the Murph. I’m alright and upright😘 Spring quickly turned to summer here in MD and we have celebrated some major milestones in the fam. My favorite niece ( for whom this business name is inspired by ) graduated with honors and earned scholarships for her University career. Piggy backed on the same date was my sons 21st Birthday 🎉 lots to celebrate and fellowship together with friends and family. I’ve got my luggage getting packed and am excited to see the Mid-West🤠 in a few days… happy summertime activities to everyone.
We are bring the heat to classes😎 - https://mailchi.mp/f638f00c966f/we-are-bringing-the-heat-to-pilatesonthepatio-classes
We are bringing the heat to #PilatesOnThePatio classes😎 Spring / Summer calendar updates** As the summer season arrives I know there are so many more activities open and available to you. My outdoor patio Pilates / Barre classes are a great compliment to any movement practice. Classes will be held Thursday mornings on the 9th, 23rd & 30th. ( NO CLASS ON....
Combo day 27 & 28 today‼️ Run/rest sets, 8 minutes in a squat. 40 push-ups for time. Still working elevated but got them knocked out under 3 minutes. Time to get ready for the Tractor 🚜 Pull👋
Day “Death by Burpees” is a new kind of evil. Cooked by minute 9😈 nuf said
Today was catch up day from yesterday, day 23. After some vitamin M* I have full use of my arms once again😅 KB Swings ( uh I don’t own a KB but used what I have), goblet squats, “run”, burpee’s over my makeshift KB✔️ All to the not so far off sound of the patriotically practicing over the Naval Academy 🇺🇸 I love our service members and the families that support their missions and remember the sacrifices as we get closer to Memorial Day and the ‼️‼️
I’m glad I didn’t take my own advice….
The conversation was lengthy( with myself mind you) and I of course weighed out the pro and cons of either decision. Do I half 🍑 it and check the box or do I stack up a few days worth of workouts and crush them when I’m back to 💯 %?? It was a bit of a risk, but I’m glad to say I got Thursday’s “Death by Pull-Ups” 9+2 rounds. My legs were dead weight as much as possible using the push-thru bar. Friday’s 50 Burpees following (elevated) in 10 rep sets. And Saturday’s 7 minutes at the bottom of a squat mobility work. 💥💥💥
Round and round we go 💪🦵 Day 16 complete‼️ Run/push/pull/squat sets as many as possible in 20 minutes 💥 so grateful to have this studio space since all of May has been crazy weather. Do you have a dedicated space for self care? What’s your favorite movement practice there?
Golden hour in the light and airy Pilates studio😌 Caught up on day 14 & 15 “running” and six minutes at the bottom of a squat. Balance and lots of shapes cause I’ve got about ten seconds of stillness before I start to wiggle around, feeling the different parts and pieces of the squat shape. Do you love or hate squats?? Have any tips you want to share that have helped you with your squats🧐 Or would you like to hear some of mine??
Friday the 13th 😈 💯 squats done for on another topic I love my sweatshirts but seriously it’s May and it’s still cool rainy and gray 😑
Death by push-ups↕️ Each minute adds another Rep. 12 minutes in and I’m cooked🥵 How many incline push-ups can you knock out? I taught my barre class this morning too, how am I ever going to put my hair up in the morning to teach Pilates 😜 stretches and foot roll out afterwards cause it’s just so yummy.
Day 8 was a day to chill and it was a lovely Mother’s Day to boot!
Day 9 ☑️ workout with “run” /squats / lunges / sit-ups / push-ups
Day seven done! It’s still raining so run was again indoors and sat at the bottom of a squat with lots of wiggles and different shapes for over 5 minutes. Continued to roll the shins and calves and some splits stretches to round out the lower body
release⚡️
Day 6 40 Pike Push-ups for time💥. Modified hands on the carriage as I honestly was a bit afraid of these. There’s a first time for everything I suppose.🙃 not dead and time was right at two minutes⚡️ let’s see if I can put my hair in a top knot foods work tomorrow 😏 🙈
Day 5 “Death by Jumping Squats” 😏 We have those… Pilates jumpboard and heavy springs for the modification 😬 Every minute you add one more rep which means less and less recovery time🦵🦵 What’s your favorite jumpboard exercise?? Did you know you can do cardio on the reformer lying down!?!
Day 4 Mobility Challenge. Look 👀 mom no 🙌 🙃Thanks to some healthy and happy hips I made it up off the floor on the first try without the use of my arms.
Day 3 Core Challenge Complete ✨Pilates styles What core exercise still feels awkward or really challenging to you? Doesn’t have to be Pilates🙃 For me I’m not a fan of hollow holds🤬
Day 2 modified 3 sets of Run, push-ups, pull-ups.
What a heartwarming trip to 🇵🇷Puerto Rico to visit our extended family!! Lots of hikes and swimming made possible by staying functionally fit💪🦵! Back home now and ready to schedule out next months Clubhouse classes😎 ⬇️
Everyone loved the stability ball series, so we are going to continue with that format for the next 5 Monday's all the way through April🟠 These will be "stand alone" classes so come for one or all from 9-10am. **Only Stipulation is I need a head count since I am providing the balls and need to know how many to bring to the clubhouse.
Thursday's will continue with my Pilates / Barre Blast format from 7:30-8:15am Using hand weights, mini bands and Pilates Ring⭕️ I can provide all these if you let me know you're coming, or bring your own. We will stay indoors until the weather is nice enough to head out to the patio.
Private studio lessons always available, just message me and we can work on a day and time that works best!
Have a beautiful day y'all😘
This…. This right here is one of the biggest compliments I’ve ever received🤍🤍🤍 My work as an educator, grace giver & cheerleader had a part in Melissa’s successful journey to 🇦🇶 Antarctica besides some sea sickness, she climbed up and down snowy terrain, rowed in the icy waters and overall felt capable and strong to check this off her bucket list!! Thanks for capturing this heartfelt message all the way down there during your quest 🗻 Do you have something you want to accomplish in your life that seems scary or unattainable right now?!? Melissa and I can attest that Pilates can help you achieve your goals ✨ Hard work pays off and off love to help you get closer to your dreams.
