For those that have been asking, we’ve been listening. Cuban Handpies are making their guest appearance today (limited quantities), and we’ll be running them next week. Order yours now!

We make our own shredded pork and stack it with sliced ham, Swiss cheese, yellow mustard, and dill pickle slices, and then wrap it all up in an all-butter housemade pie dough.

When we first started making them, I wondered why? Every restaurant in town seems to have a Cuban. And then I tasted it. Pie dough. That’s why.

Tomorrow we will be up in Daytona offering a tasting of our goodies right outside of Margaritaville. Not only will we have the (anything but) usual brownies and blondies, we’ll also be sampling out some of our desserty desserts like carrot cake, chocolate mousse cake, coconut cream and key lime pies. Eat dessert first, then head to dinner! We’ll be there 3:30-5:30.

Tomorrow is 4th of July, obviously, which is cause for celebration in itself. But there’s another important celebration going on as well that you may not know of. The Bake Shop is celebrating their 10th year being in business, starting with Yellow Dog Eats Kitchen & Bar opening their doors 10 years ago over 4th of July weekend. Thank you, Fish Morgan, for calling me out of the blue and asking me to make your desserts. I am forever grateful.

We’ve been through a lot over this past decade, and when I look at where we started, it’s pretty unbelievable the progress we’ve made. Thank you so much for all of the support over all the years while we figure everything out. Here’s to 10 more years of growth, 10 more years of figuring it out, and 10 more years of sharing what we love most with all of you.

Today at 430 we will be welcoming Luma to the neighborhood at the ribbon cutting sponsored by the SEV Chamber of Commerce. We will have a dessert table there with some of our goodies that are sold there, plus some fun ones just because.

If you haven’t been or seen it yet, this place is a pretty incredible addition to Flagler Avenue. Instead of tearing down that old pink house on the corner of Cooper and Flagler, they have revitalized the outdoor space into something special, keeping the history intact. We are excited to be working with Luma, and we wish them lots of success!!

As we all know the pricing of the homes in the area has exploded in recent years . If you are a home owner, that is certainly not a bad thing. But if you are a renter, if you’re making $15/hour or on a fixed income, home ownership can seem downright impossible.

Habitat for Humanity helps bridge the gap by offering affordable housing that will never exceed 30% of one’s income. Find out more by attending this orientation at the end of July at the Edgewater Library.

There are over 1,200 families in our area on a waitlist to get into Section 8 housing. The need is real, and it is severe.

If you would like to support our mission of building nine homes this year, and twelve homes next year, and even more the next, there are multiple ways to help. Habitat will always accept monetary donations, but you can also donate your unwanted items to the ReStore or volunteer at the store or on a build site (we have four going right now).
