It's cozy gourd season, and did you know that pumpkin seeds are amazing for your brain? Pumpkin seeds, also known as pepitas, are rich in antioxidants that protect the body and brain from free-radical damage. They are also an excellent source of magnesium, zinc, copper and iron, all of which are important minerals for brain health. Magnesium supports brain development, memory and learning.
Make some savory pumpkin seeds this weekend for a snack or toss on a salad. YUM!
Ingredients:
1 cup raw pumpkin seeds (also known as pepitas)
2 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika (smoked or regular)
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Fresh herbs (like rosemary or thyme), finely chopped (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Seeds: If using fresh pumpkin seeds, rinse them under cold water to remove any pulp, then dry them off. The key is THE DRIER YOU GET THEM, THE CRISPIER THEY WILL BE! So you can dry them out while pre-heating the oven, or overnight on the counter spread on a baking sheet.
Season the Seeds: In a mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin seeds, olive oil (or butter), salt, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Toss until the seeds are evenly coated.
Spread on a Baking Sheet: Spread the seasoned seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Roast: Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the seeds are golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
Add Fresh Herbs: If you’re using fresh herbs, add them in the last 5 minutes of roasting for added flavor.
Cool and Enjoy: Once roasted, let the seeds cool slightly before enjoying them as a snack or topping for salads and soups.
Storage:
Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
Enjoy!!!
The Alzheimer’s Association states that the number of Americans living with Alzheimer’s is growing fast, and nearly 7 million people are living with Alzheimer’s. By 2050, the number of people will rise to about 13 million people.
There are considerable consequences for missed opportunities for treatment, resources and services that can impact the quality of life.
While there is no cure, there are wonderful advancements that can help a person to live a more quality life and delay some of the most challenging symptoms.
At Bhakti Brain Health Clinic, we provide services that can prolong a person’s quality of life, as well as making life easier for caregivers. It all starts here with an ASSESSMENT.
Our assessments include Cognitive Behavioral Function, Brain Function and Physiological Function testing. We can work with you individually or collaborate with other health providers to lead you to a more refined diagnosis. You don’t need a diagnosis to come to us. With our QEEG neuroimaging, we are able to get about 200 pages of data, maps and analysis of your brain. This is valuable to be able to personalize a treatment plan that directly works with your brain to train it to work as optimally as possible for a long as possible. No brains look alike.

Gratitude
A Reflection from Fran Bieganek, co-owner of Bhakti Brain Health Clinic:
I am usually quite reluctant to share personal information in public forums. But, a recent event has left me with pause for reconsidering. A few weeks ago my 28 year-old nephew died, unexpectedly in his sleep with no known cause. As painful as this loss is, and as difficult as it is to understand, I've found some solace in how Ricky lived his life. His life and his death inspire me to focus with gratitude on my own life.
With that perspective as my backdrop, I wanted to take a moment to share my gratitude for our BBHC team and collaborators. They work tirelessly, and with great commitment, to help others to feel better, to enhance their sense of well-being, to reach their potential. I'm honored to work alongside them. And, I'd like to share my gratitude for them with you.
I am grateful:
to my business partner, Guy Odishaw, for courageously partnering on this journey of bringing cutting edge care to so many and for caring deeply about the well-being of all those we work with
to Ann Bieganek, our Clinic Administrator, who has stuck with us through our early growing years and supported us and our clients to keep the BBHC engine running, her kindness is infectious
to Adam Dowiak, our steadfast technician, who has walked with so many clients through their journey; Adam does this with humility and a sense of humor – two invaluable traits
to Heidi Nauman, our networking guru, who brings joy to her work (and our work) and who has grown our network in so many wonderful ways
to Kevin Martinez, our newest technician, who brings a passion for helping and a can-do attitude to all he does and who, if you listen closely, often hums a tune as he goes about his day
to Allysen Hoberg, our Clinic Manager, who is getting us organized, moving us forward and who brings her joy-filled laugh into our days
to Tammy Pulver, Director of Special Education for MN charter schools, for her passion and devotion to helping children. Tammy is a true change-agent; she is creative in her approach to working in education; she never stops working to better the lives of children who have learning and mental health difficulties. She inspires me every single day!
to Katy Richburg (Newport Healthcare), and Catherine Mayer (Center for Families, Newport Healthcare) who represent the true meaning of collaboration
to our many, many clients who trust us with their care, who do the hard work of showing up for themselves. You inspire us to keep moving forward, to provide quality, cutting edge services
And, to Ricky, for the gift his life gave to me. I am grateful.

Getting brain health and back health treatment at the same time! Using AVE (Audio Video Entraiment) and Nada-Chair at the 2024 Midwest Health Conference
You may have noticed a new face in the office! We are happy to have Allysen, our new clinic manager, greeting everyone who arrives! Here is a little bit about her:
"Hello! I'm happy to be the new Clinic Manager at BBHC. I have a diverse professional background and have worked mainly in the social work field. In my spare time I love to go to the dog park with my pal Bingo, trying new restaurants, watching bad horror movies with my son, and traveling. My favorite places to travel are New Orleans and Mexico - and if I had to pick a place to travel tomorrow it would be anywhere by a beach (with a cold beverage, a book, and snacks)."
Be sure to say hello when you visit the clinic!
Neurofeedback can play an important part in a wellness routine, and also as part of a holistic approach to work place well being. Tomorrow we will be exhibiting at the 2024 Midwest Health Promotion Conference along with , , Push Pedal Pull, FitKit Wellness, Launch My Health, Hennepin County Government, HealthPartners and other great organizations. We’re thrilled to be exhibiting here, where we can share our passion for brain health and how Bhakti Brain Health Clinic can be an integral part of a workplace wellness program.
"I believe that the treatment our son received was very instrumental in helping him to more consistently regulate. We haven't had the chronic, long episodes of rocking and we see him being able to face some of the underlying issues in the therapy session with his therapist. His incidence of violent response has also decreased pretty significantly to almost zero episodes. I think he feels better and feels safer. We feel like the neurofeedback made a difference for him in a long term and meaningful way."
