Congratulations to Leigh Ann Feily! Leigh Ann was named The Minnesota School Psychologist of the Year! See below to learn more about this prestigious award. 👏👏
This award is designed to honor those professionals whose principles, standards and dedication have enhanced the field of school psychology. The honoree of the 2024 Minnesota School Psychologist Award is Ms. Leigh Ann Feily. Her nominator shares “Leigh Ann Feily's passion for and dedication to MTSS has been evident from the start of her life as a school psychologist. Her 2013 thesis for her specialist degree was a review of our (school psychologists) roles in the implementation of an MTSS system. During her first two years as a school psychologist she was on the Minnesota state SLD trainers team. She continues this positive impact as the district-wide (Edina Public Schools) Student Support Services Continuous Improvement Specialist and MTSS Coordinator.

After nearly four decades of dedicated service to education, Creek Valley Elementary School Principal Kari Dahlquist has announced her retirement at the end of this school year. Kari, who began her journey in 1985, served as a technology paraprofessional before becoming the principal of Creek Valley in 2000. EM/E congratulates EHS student Sonja Holtey!
Denise Specht, President of Education Minnesota, introduced EHS Senior Sonja Holtey and her award-winning documentary "Putting it All on the Line: A New Frontier of Teacher's Strikes" at a recent meeting of the Minneapolis Federation of Labor. The MFL honored Sonja with a cash prize at the 2023 State History Day competition and a standing ovation for her dedication to union workers. In addition to top honors at the MN State contest, Sonja's documentary earned her a 9th Place finish at the National History Day contest last June.
Congratulations to South View Middle School for being recognized as a 2023 National Banner Unified Champion School! Other amazing schools being recognized include Bemidji High School, Orono High School, Shakopee High School, and Waconia High School.
A Unified Champion School receiving national banner recognition is one that has demonstrated commitment to inclusion by meeting 10 national standards of excellence. These standards were developed by a national panel of leaders from Special Olympics and the education community.
This week is Membership Week. Each day, members in buildings across the district will be taking time to celebrate our commitment to each other & to our students through membership in EM/E. Check your email for details. Also, look for member shout outs this week!

EM/E members are excited to showcase our solidarity at School Board meetings this year! We are also excited for food trucks! Thank you Concord and Southview for starting off the year with the September meeting. Each site will choose a month but ALL EM/E members are welcome to come break bread with union brothers and sisters beforehand. Dinner will be paid for by the Organizing for Settlement Grant we received. Food truck 5:15-6:45.

Cornelia teachers gathered outside of their school before the start of the duty on Friday to greet students and families at drop off. This action was intended as a visual positive affirmation of support for their school, their community and each other. Cornelia teachers love their school and seek to partner with the district on voice in decisions that impact their building.
