💤 Getting good quality sleep is important for academic performance and overall well-being. It will help your brain rest and recharge so you can focus, learn and feel better each day.

🍔 Eating a balanced diet will help fuel the body and brain by getting the right amount of nutrients to stay energized. Nutrition is also important because it can help you stay focused, get stronger, and will help you perform better in sports too!

💦 Staying hydrated is the key to keeping your body and brain functioning properly. Drinking water also helps with concentration, digestion, and overall physical health.

📚 Prioritizing these areas can help you get through your school day and have enough energy when performing in sports!

With fall sports kicking off, let's discuss in-season training!

Continuing or starting to train during the season is crucial for an athlete's long-term development.

Why would you want to be at your best at the beginning of the season and not the end?

Chart 1: This chart shows that if an athlete stopped training during the competitive season, there will be significant regressions that occur, and they will need to spend time following their season to regain what the lost in season.

Chart 2: Throughout the off-season, athletes work extremely hard to acquire specific skills or attributes that assist in their ability to perform at a high level. We also know that these attributes typically decline within 5-30 days of inactivity.

At ETS, we strive to keep our athletes at their best during their season! We do so by carefully monitoring our athlete's session to session and micro-dosing those specific attributes which they have acquired. By doing this, they can continue to progress through the season and be their best when it matters most!

This week’s goes out to Ty!

Ty started training with us following his senior football season, and he has been a fixture at our facility 4-5 times per week over the past 9 months.

This week, Ty started football fall camp, and we will miss having him around. Best of luck on your freshman football season!

Why Perform Board Bench Press?

The Board Bench Press is a great bench variation to incorporate into an advanced athletes program. Often we see athletes hit a sticking point about 4 inches above the chest during bench press, a great way to break through this sticking point is by adding a board bench press into their program.

Using this variation can help athletes work on their overall lockout/tricep strength. The use of heavier weights on the board bench press will also build up an athletes confidence and overall force production, which will then translate to any other form of bench press.

Another important reason to incorporate the board bench press is for any athlete who has had some form of shoulder injury, or for any overhead athlete performing a pressing exercise, as it helps maintain a strong and healthy shoulder and helps reduce the chance of injury.

This week’s goes out to one of our coaches this summer, Morgan!

Morgan served as a performance coach all summer, and she did a phenomenal job helping at our facility, and also with Bloomington Jefferson Volleyball training.

We are grateful for everything she did this summer to help all of our athletes! Good luck to Morgan on her senior year, go get ‘em! 🏐🏀

At ETS, a speed drill we often utilize is a Flying 10. A Flying 10 allows athletes to build up speed, for varying distance (can depend on the space), before running a timed 10-yard sprint.

This is a great way to see how efficient athletes are in accelerating, as you compare their normal 10 Yard Dash to their Flying 10.

Props to some of our Speed Plus athletes for putting some great reps on tape!

Why “Leave A Legacy?”

In our facility, there is a large “Leave A Legacy” decal on the wall. At ETS, we look to instill this mindset into everyone we get the opportunity to work with. “Leaving A Legacy” means doing things that make an impact beyond yourself. It means being a good family member, teammate, and friend, and being willing to do things that will make a positive, lasting difference around you.

“Leaving A Legacy” could even be as simple as putting in 100% effort every training session, practice, or game, to ensure that no doubt can ever come across your mind that an opportunity to succeed was left out there.

At ETS, we not only want to “Leave A Legacy” with our athletes by helping them achieve their training and sport specific goals; but we also want to “Leave A Legacy” by teaching them characteristics which will enable them to someday “Leave A Legacy” throughout their lives as well.
