Our "in-vivo like" Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) is being used to study the link between Periodontitis (PD) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD).
With the help of our model, the scientists found that not only do PD-induced exosomes cross the BBB, but they also compromise its integrity. TEER readings and expression of tight-junction proteins both decrease after exposure to the exosomes. These findings give some insight into how PD may contribute to the development of AD.
Image: TEER readings in Neuromics BBB model at different time points when blood side is exposed to PD exosomes (PD EXO) and health exosomes (Con EXO). Exposure to PD EXO decreases TEER readings.

Neuromics' Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts (CAFS) in Action
Researchers used our Human Kidney CAFS to show their impact on Tumor Growth-https://www.neuromics.com/our-immortalized-cafs-in-action
Findings: When treated with the anti-CTLA-4 antibody (immunotherapy), the CAF-positive mice had a large tumor size. OM-RCA-01 was able to target both CAF-dependent and CAF-independent resistance to immunotherapy in the renal cancer in vivo model.

Despite being on the market for less than a year, researchers just published a study citing our Immortalized Human Kidney Cancer Associated Fibroblasts (CAFs) (cat. CAF110-IM) for the first time. The scientists investigated the therapeutic potential of the anti-fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) monoclonal antibody OM-RCA-01, including in mice injected with our CAFs. Our Human Brain Astrocytes, Pericytes, and Microvascular Endothelial Cells were used in a newly released paper studying the effects of hyperglycemia on the blood-brain barrier (BBB). The scientists built an in vitro BBB model by co-culturing the three cell types, finding disruptions to the integrity of the BBB after exposure to high glucose conditions.

Potent and effective! Check out this incredible media developed by Neuromics that stimulates neurite formation and promotes the understanding of neurite outgrowth biology. Using this media, three-dimensional neurite tube structures can be formed in vitro in less than 18 hours. Neurons extend numerous processes that differentiate into dendrites and axons, essential for communication between neurons. This media can shed light on mechanisms underlying certain neurodegenerative diseases. Learn more about it here: https://www.neuromics.com/HNM004 Neuromics Neuroscience News and Research David Rupp
