But it's the push through your upper body that completes the cycle, allowing you to transfer that energy into the bat and the ball, ultimately increasing your exit velocity.
Syncing your lower body and upper body movements is crucial for all hitters. As your hips rotate and build torque, your upper body needs to push through with strength and precision, creating a smooth transfer of power. Heavy lifting during the season, helps maintain muscle mass, strength, and power, which are essential for the explosive actions required in baseball, such as pitching, batting, and sprinting.
The concentric phase of lifting, where the muscle shortens as it contracts, is particularly important because it directly contributes to the power output and speed necessary for high-performance actions in baseball. By emphasizing concentric lifts, athletes can enhance their force production without causing excessive muscle damage, which is crucial for recovery and maintaining peak performance throughout the season.
Another significant benefit of heavy, concentric-focused lifting is its role in injury prevention.
