We are bursting with pride – Jane Hamilton, RN, practice manager of Bassett’s School-Based Health Program, has been honored with the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award by the National School-Based Health Alliance!

Jane was presented with the prestigious award on July 2 in Washington, D.C. Jane helped establish Bassett’s School-Based Health Program when it opened its first clinic in 1992. Since then, she has helped expand and develop the program to include 22 clinics across 18 school districts in Central New York, serving more than 7,000 currently enrolled students. Medical, dental, and mental healthcare services are provided at no cost to families – making a difference in thousands of lives over more than three decades.

A friendly public service announcement to all Bassett patients: when you need a blood draw or specimen collection, it is best to schedule an appointment ahead of time. This helps us minimize wait times. We also gladly accept walk-ins during our office hours if that is easier for you—just be aware that unscheduled patients may have to wait a bit longer. On June 18, Bassett Medical Center’s Graduate Medical Education program welcomed 26 interns to our residency programs in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, and Transitional Year. Our residents join a long and cherished academic tradition at Bassett as we proudly educate and train the next generation of caregivers.

This annual event invites students enrolled in Bassett’s School-Based Health Program to learn how to ensure their bike helmet fits correctly while showing off their personal design skills. The randomly selected winners will be starting their summer riding with brand new bike helmets.

Bassett is committed to serving its communities - but often, we are also served by our community. The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. and the Wesley and Marion Small Fund recently gave Valley Health Services in Herkimer a $15,000 grant to purchase new rehabilitation equipment. Thanks to the Community Foundation’s generosity, Valley Health patients are regaining independence after debilitating strokes, neurological conditions, injuries, and illness.

On Sunday, June 2, eighty-three cancer survivors gathered at the Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown with their guests, caregivers, and volunteers to celebrate their victories over cancer. Bassett’s 2024 Cancer Survivors’ Day Luncheon was a success by many measures, but by far the most important one is that it left the survivors in attendance feeling honored and valued.

Thanks to everyone who made this event possible, including: Presenting/Lead Sponsors – Fennimore Asset Management and Visions Federal Credit Union; Participating Sponsors – Lamont Engineers and Onco360; the Farmers’ Museum for hosting; Brooks’ Barbeque for catering; and the countless Bassett caregivers and volunteers who planned and executed the event.

Today marks the summer solstice: the longest day of the year and the transition into summer! May this extra-bright day bring growth, joy, and peace to you and your loved ones.

Reminder! Construction is still in progress in FoxCare Center's parking lot. Please allow extra time to account for temporary changes to traffic patterns and potential delays in entering and exiting the area. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work to improve the parking lot and accompanying helipad!

Construction Alert: Parking Lot Paving Project at Bassett Healthcare Network's FoxCare Center in Oneonta Starting June 17, 2024 The project is expected to last a minimum of 15-20 business days — possibly longer, depending on weather and other factors.

It is commonly thought that the Emancipation Proclamation, issued on January 1 in 1863, ended slavery in Confederate states. However, it took over two years after that for all enslaved individuals to be freed. On June 19, 1865, word of the Proclamation and enforcement by the Army finally ended slavery in Texas.

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day and Freedom Day, celebrates that moment and the freedom that followed. This day also serves as an important reminder of historical and current racial inequities in our country - and our collective responsibility to create a future of freedom, opportunity, and community for all.
