HOLY EXCHANGE. Word Press wouldn't let me edit or publish on our New Heart Blog, so I'll publish it here:
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
What an unequal exchange! Something so worthless, for something so priceless! But it’s not unusual, God is always doing that. All through the Bible, God is saying, “If you’ll do this, I’ll do that; if you’ll do this, I’ll do that.” It’s about Grace. It’s about the Blood Covenant. It’s about relationship. “All things are possible with God,” (Mark 10:27), He wants our cooperation. He sent Jesus so that our relationship with Him might be restored.
When Jesus died on the cross, He didn’t just die on the cross. He didn’t just endure interrogation, humiliation, rejection by His friends, a flogging that may have left internal organs exposed, 3 hours of torture on the cross trying to keep from suffocating and then just die for our sins. That was the physical and emotional pain and suffering. Any man can die. Jesus did more than that. Jesus became Sin! At the crucifixion, God poured all the sin of the world (past, present, and future) into that
precious,
bleeding,
innocent
Lamb of His,
until Jesus was so saturated with it
He became sin -- and it killed Him!
AND OUR SIN DIED WITH HIM!
our SIN died with Him!
our sin DIED with Him!
our sin died with HIM!
YES, OUR SIN DIED WITH HIM!
He did it because HE LOVES US! He did it to restore relationship with us! When Christ was resurrected in victory, He was resurrected in Righteousness.
Now when we accept Jesus, when we’re in Christ, God pours that Righteousness into us until we’re so saturated with it we become the righteousness of God, and we live!
But it doesn’t end there! God continues to offer exchanges to us all through our Christians lives.
What exchange do you need to make?

Just want to say something about New Heart Women's Issues at Westgate Chapel:
The Women’s Issues Group contains the kind of variability that honors the Lord. With various levels of faith and maturity, each woman has come to this group for various reasons – and each has come as a result of the Lord’s direction. Over the years, I have found that many of the women who come to this group end up moving on to their actual calling, as a result. For instance, at least a half dozen of the New Heart Leaders started out in Women’s Issues (including myself); several who are currently in the group are also serving in short-term missions, volunteering for New Heart Place for Women, and/or Interceding for the rest who are in the group. And some are there simply because they have “issues.” So far this year, the issues are a little different: a woman standing in faith for her porn-addicted husband; an ex-Catholic, born-again returned prodigal who is standing courageously for her unsaved family; women who are unemployed, homeless and hopeless come to find hope and truth. Despite a world filled with COVID, inflation, LGBTQ, abortion, sexual sin, idolatry, and apostacy, the broken & hurting of Women’s Issues CHOOSE to get together, pray together, encourage each other, do spiritual warfare on behalf of one another, and find & share the hope and truth in Jesus Christ. No matter what the topic is, we come away every week with a refreshed sense of hope/belonging/expectancy/purpose. I do, anyway.

NEW HEART BULLETIN ARTICLE
The Issue: FOCUS
“As the celebration of the Passover Lamb was approaching, the Jewish religious leaders and scholars of the law continually schemed to find a way to murder Jesus without starting a riot – for they feared the crowds” (Luke 22:1-2 TPT).
Two things about this verse stand out to me…
1. The religious leaders and scholars CONTINUALLY schemed to find a way to murder Jesus. That tells me they were obsessed. They could think of nothing else or talk about nothing else with each other. Constantly they tried to find a way to murder. These were the religious leaders and scholars of the law – planning murder. These ones that the people should have been able to trust were obsessed with trying to make a plan to sin. As leaders and scholars, it seems to me that they should have been focused on the Passover. They should have been focused on the grace of God and his amazing provision of a way to be forgiven. They should have been humble enough to know they needed forgiveness and that God had made a way for them to be forgiven. Instead their thoughts and hearts were dark – their intent and focus dark!
2. The other thing about this is the outcome. What the leaders and scholars did not realize was that they were focused on the demise of the very provision of God for salvation and forgiveness. They wanted Jesus out of the picture, yet in their scheming and eventual success in killing Him, they provided what God intended - the “forever Passover Lamb,” our Savior and Lord. What they were focused on was used in God’s plan.
What does this mean to me and you? Well, what are YOU focused on?
The Truth: Redirecting FOCUS
When you give all your attention and focus to the problem, situation, or obsession, you are not focusing on the Lord of lords and King of kings – the author and perfecter of your faith!
You may ask, “Why is that important? “
As seen in Luke 22, God can and will use our actions to accomplish His purposes. Even if our choices and actions come from the dark places of our heart!
But wouldn’t you rather be used by God from the Light in your heart?
Ephesians 5:8 says, “For you were once full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!” (NLT).
How do you live as a person of light?
To answer that, let me ask you this: How do you focus on anything in the dark? You NEED light in order to see! So, if you are focused on Jesus, in the Light, the dark places won’t overwhelm you, the obsessions won’t overtake you and the storms will be overcome!
A good example is when Peter walked on water with Jesus. It was only when he took his eyes off Jesus that he began to sink! (Matthew 14:22-30).
So, wouldn’t you rather be focused on God from your Light inside instead of being focused on the stuff in the darkness?? The Light of Christ brings clarity, peace, guidance, and hope. If so, pray this prayer:
Heavenly Father, what might I be focused on or obsessed by that separates me from Jesus and comes from the dark places of my heart? Change my perspective and get my focus on YOU. God, you used the religious leaders and scholars to bring about your purposes back then. I pray that you won’t have to use my darkness to bring about your purposes, but rather that you would use the Light in me to bring about your purposes. Keep me focused on Jesus, His righteousness, His love, and His purposes. Amen.

The Issue: THE CLOAK
HAVE YOU BEEN PRAYING?
Have you been praying for someone for years?
Have you been praying for a loved one to be delivered from a life-controlling issue ever since you heard what Jesus could do?
Maybe you have been praying, seeking, asking, and knocking for so long—without results— that you’re about ready to give up.
It’s true: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life” | Proverbs 13:12.
Are you heart sick watching someone in your life dying from addiction?
Are you worried every day that you’re going to get The Phone Call?
You’re probably tired of friends and family members telling you not to bother…to just give up:
• “He/She will never change”
• “Why don’t you just write that person off?”
• “They’re a hopeless case.”
• “You’re wasting your time!”
Oh, to have a heart to weep with anticipation and faith,
instead of misery and disappointment!
The Truth: Throwing Aside THE CLOAK
“THE CLOAK OF BARTIMAEUS”
Mark 10:46-52 tells the story of blind Bartimaeus and how Jesus miraculously healed him. In a noisy crowd, Bartimaeus called to Jesus. In fact, he was so persistent he was almost obnoxious…to the point where people near him told him to be quiet! In a noisy crowd! But he wouldn’t be quiet…he pressed on!
Jesus, in spite of the crowd noise, hears Bartimaeus and stops! Jesus tells people near him to call Bartimaeus, so they do. Bartimaeus, blind as a bat, stands up, throws his cloak aside and practically runs to Jesus.
(SIDE NOTE: Bartimaeus was a beggar. His cloak was his most important possession. Some beggars didn’t have a cloak, but Bartimaeus did. It was probably his only form of shelter. It was his house, his security, his warmth, his protection. He’d sit on it when he begged; he’d cover himself when it rained. He may have even used it as a pillow. In the “beggar’s circle” the cloak was a status symbol…and it was everything he owned. But he threw it aside—he unencumbered himself—in order to get to Jesus as fast as he could!)
BACK TO THE STORY
I can imagine this beggar, skinny and dirty, bony hands out in front of him, almost running toward that voice, bumping into people, but not discouraged, until he is standing in front of Jesus. Trembling, tears streaming down his face, Bartimaeus wept with anticipation.
Jesus asked him what he wanted and Bartimaeus didn’t hesitate: “I want to see.” He told Jesus exactly what he wanted and Jesus granted it without hesitation: “Go. Your faith has healed you.”
UNENCUMBER YOURSELF
Sometimes, like Bartimaeus, we need to unencumber ourselves in order to get to Jesus. What is it that encumbers you? What do you need to “throw aside?” Is something standing between you and Jesus? Get rid of it! For Bartimaeus it meant giving his cloak less value and his faith in Jesus more value.
What’s your cloak? Do you need to throw aside your expectations, your habit of enabling, judgmental attitude, or your own sin? What is it that comes between you and Jesus?
GIVE YOUR FAITH MORE VALUE!
Then, even if you’ve been asking, knocking, shouting for years, you need to be ready to ask boldly again—especially at a time when others think it’s too late or you’re asking in vain.
Don’t give up! Never give up!
NEW HEART BULLETIN ARTICLE
The Issue: PRAYER
WHO PRAYS?
Do you pray? Does someone you know pray? Do they get answers? Do you? Does it make any difference whether we pray or not?
Some say prayer is nothing more than meditation, and is effective in bringing a sense of peace because of the focusing of the mind inwardly.
Some say prayer is wishful thinking and was invented to give children a sense of security when praying, “Now I lay me down to sleep…”
Some say asking God for anything is futile and that He is so big and we are so little that He doesn’t care and never answers prayers. Especially if they “tried” praying and still didn’t get that job…or their spouse still left them…or their loved one still wasn’t healed from cancer.
Where was God then?
WHAT CAN HAPPEN?
There were times when the Israelites didn’t pray. Granted, they had priests and prophets to pray on their behalf—like Isaiah and Moses and Aaron. But at a crucial time in their history—at a time when God was ready to judge and destroy Jerusalem, He looked for someone who would “stand in the gap” and pray on Jerusalem’s behalf, and in the whole nation He didn’t find one single person who was praying for Jerusalem! Can you imagine?
(You can read about it in Ezekiel 22).
The Truth: The Importance of PRAYER
WHAT IS PRAYER?
Prayer is conversation with God. It is simply talking with God and listening to him, telling Him your thoughts and feelings, praising Him, thanking Him, confessing sin, and asking for His help and advice.
The essence of prayer is humbly entering the very presence of almighty God.
CONFESSION
Sometimes prayer includes a confession of the things you have done wrong. It is through confession that you demonstrate the humility necessary for open lines of communication with the almighty, holy God. Confession is the first step of agreeing with God.
PRAY FOR OTHERS AND YOURSELF
• “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” | 1 Timothy 2:1-4.
• We are to pray for others. We can pray for our families. We can pray for those who don’t know how to pray for themselves. And we are told to pray for those in authority. It pleases God!
• Believe it or not, for whatever reason, some of us forget to pray for ourselves. We have so many people in our lives and so many things on our wish list that we can forget to just draw near to Father God.
• Ask God for guidance and then wait for His direction. This really is an expression of an intimate relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ.
DOES GOD ALWAYS ANSWER PRAYER?
God listens carefully to every prayer and answers it. His answer may be yes, no, or wait. Any loving parent gives all three of these responses to a child. God always answers based on what he knows is best for you.
TRUST GOD!
He loves you and wants to have a conversation with you!
Enter His holy, loving presence today!
NEW HEART BULLETIN ARTICLE
The Issue: TEMPTATION
IT PROBABLY DIDN’T HAPPEN WITH JUST ONE CHOICE
When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden, do you think it only took the serpent a few minutes to convince them to partake of the forbidden fruit? In all likelihood, took much longer than minutes. In fact, it could have taken months or even years.
Think About It.
We don't know how long they actually lived in the Garden
and how many times they resisted temptation
before the serpent was successful.
And do you think eating the forbidden fruit was the only temptation they faced? If so, what was Eve doing at the tree where "she saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom," (Genesis 3:6)? She never should have been near that tree!
Think About It.
What choices got her to the point
of seeing that fruit of that tree “was good”?
What choices got her close enough to the tree to be able to see the fruit?
By the time we fall into temptation we have already made many choices on the way. By the time we drink that beer or open that website, buy that outfit or throw the dice, we have made decisions that, in and of themselves are not sinful, but that bring us to a point of believing that the choice to sin is logical and necessary.
Like Eve we find ourselves “taking hold of the apple” not all of sudden, but as the result of a series of unhealthy, often selfish, ungodly choices.
Sin is often progressive | Satan is a gradualist.
The Truth: Resisting TEMPTATION
13 “No temptation has seized you except what is common to
man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted
beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” | 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
Look at verse 13 again: “No temptation…he will not let you…he will provide a way of escape.” That’s the truth about temptation. You are not a victim. Your temptation is not unique to you. Your Father will provide a way of escape. Oh, yeah…HE WILL PROVIDE. (Say it aloud three or four times).
O.K., so how do I respond? Three (3) critical choices you and I must make whenever we are faced with temptation:
CHOICE #1
STOP | Stop Acting on That Choice You Were About to Make
• Stop talking.
• Put it down…yeah, that “drug of choice” in your hand.
• Leave the environment RIGHT NOW!
• Separate yourself from the people who are being used of the enemy to tempt you. Do it now.
CHOICE #2
LOOK | Look to Jesus and His Way of Escape
• “Jesus, I need you! Help me. Show me the way out of this temptation.”
• Look around you: there’s a door out of where you are standing. Go through it. Do not wait. Do not think about it.
CHOICE #3
LISTEN | Listen for the Holy Spirit
• The Holy Spirit will speak to you. Oh, maybe not in a linguistic form of subject and predicate, nouns and verbs. But, if you listen, He will make sure you know what He wants to say. He’ll speak it into your spirit.
• Whatever He says to do, obey. Don’t argue, don’t rationalize, don’t try to “make a deal.” Just obey.
• Your obedience will place you squarely on the “way of escape.”
YES THERE IS A WAY OUT!
