The Workshop
The Workshop is a classical Pilates studio that offers private, duet and semi-private lessons Pilates Lessons taught virtually available
This past year, I’ve been nurturing what I had felt is a natural progression of a long love affair of this work, both in my own body and the gift of getting to teach and share it.
The “how” I want to add more to “studio owner”, “full time instructor,” “busy mom” etc presented the questions of “what feels good”, “what am I able to do well” and what, as an entrepreneur is “smart to do”.
Presenting this work in workshops, mentoring new and seasoned instructors, consulting, retreats and podcasts is what I had arrived at as what I will be working on.
Lori Coleman-Brown gave me and our awesome team she handpicked, the opportunity to nurture the “presenter role” on my list and I am forever grateful.
While I may be new to adding this role to my resume, weekly lessons since 2000, several workshops and trainings every year since that same time period no doubt have helped prepare me for this exciting new challenge and role.
Throughout the year, with every workshop, the trust Lori had in us deepened and we were given more responsibility.
The advanced seminar was our finale and the “ask” was big.
Where previously, newer instructors were the majority, Atlas Pilates has cultivated the secret sauce to attract the reverse where curriculum seminars are also continuing education weekends!
The attendance was filled with seasoned instructors, teacher trainers as well as some international presenters.
Romana Kryzanowska, who I was fortunate to train with and who certified me used to say to expect the unexpected.
I remember the week of my testing and prep for my practical final testing with her . (A practical with a body and a mat class). She had trained us with “never teach a full magic circle mat”. So, I did not prepare that as it would not be on the table.
Romana had magic to help you be better in all ways and to also educate and humble you if you needed to develop in some way.
My assignment for that mat class all of those years ago was “a mat class using the magic circle for anything you can”
SURPRISE!!
Some of my greatest lessons as an instructor have been to grow to be adaptable in the moment to the body or bodies I have in front of me, to expect the unexpected, adapt quickly, and to teach good Pilates!
Back to the attendance of the advanced seminar, I had my planned assignment and then on the fly was asked to teach more the next day. I did have permission to say no, but because of long standing training, the trust of my mentor Lori and knowing this is what I want to do, I accepted the challenge.
It was an amazing weekend and I know I’m on the right path.
I have been working with my business coach of 4 years, Juliet Lauren Clingan and know piece by piece, these goals will be met!
Last week, unexpectedly, I received an email from a peer who flew in for the seminar.
It brightened my day, brought tears to my eyes and solidified any lingering questions I had about next steps in teaching!
The subject in the email was
“THANK YOU!!!”
“….I’ve always so enjoyed your approach with people and your style of teaching, so what a treat it was to be in a seminar with you presenting!!! I LOVED your moments, I think you have so much to offer and now I’m just waiting for your Pilatesology teaching tutorials! You are a gift to the world of Pilates—I feel so grateful to know you…”
Thank you my friend!!
Romana routinely would remind us
“What is Pilates good for?”
The body!!
Every. muscle. worked.
And today is only day one.
I’ll check in tomorrow, my eyeballs might be sore by then too.🤣🤣
Thank you Lori Coleman-Brown for my lesson yesterday…sooo many lovey nuggets with some pearls too.
Butt kicked, as well as the rest of me.❤️

“Many think success means getting everything I want. And we say, that’s what dead is, and there is no such thing as that kind of dead. Success is not being done; not being complete. Success is still dreaming and feeling positive in the unfolding.”

Anyone that knows me, at least over the last year or so has probably heard me speak highly of Rich, share podcasts, talk about athletic greens, my going mostly plant based etc.
The first podcast I listened to was about changing your brain with Dr. Andrew Huberman and I was fired up.
He never disappoints with his choice in guests and topics.
While I value the the energy that comes through that mic (my woo-woo needs are met ), and the new vocabulary I pick up (his is on point, not in a condescending way, but in an “I’m inspired and I want to time block to read more” way), the thing I keep coming back for is his vulnerability and willingness to share the wins and the struggles, along with offering tools that may help, and a reminder that it’s a commitment to, and all of the incremental steps (albeit sometimes hard to see in the moment) are not wasted, but instead necessary for mastery.
Current things I’m working towards “mastering” while trying to feel myself again?
Entrepreneur 15 years, motherhood 10 years, marriage 9 year, Pilates student 25 years, instructor 20 years.
These three are not easy feats, the reminder of mastery being so hard and that nurturing often and that little bits add up is good reminder!!
Thanks Rich!
What are you working towards “mastering” friends?
STOP HACKING YOUR LIFE
Here’s a hot take: doing anything well is fu***ng hard. Mastery? Only a rare few are willing to give what that ordeal takes.
If you have a passion—if you aspire to elevate your life—if you want to see what you are truly made of, or just how far you can go and what you are truly capable of, please dispense with short cuts. Forget the hack.
Instead, commit. Invite the daily pressure that compels invisible progress over time. Embrace the anonymity of doing hard things in the dark when nobody is watching.
Wake up before dawn and apply yourself silently. Practice your craft—in whatever shape or form that may be—late into the evening with relentless rigor.
Welcome the fear and walk through it courageously.
Let go of perfection. Allow yourself to fail. Welcome the obstacles. Forget the results. Ignore the competition.
Give yourself over to your passion with every fiber of who you are. And live out the rest of your days trying to do better.
I can’t promise that you will succeed in the way our culture inappropriately defines the term. But I can absolutely guarantee that you will become deeply acquainted with who you truly are. You will touch and exude passion. Discover purpose—and what it means to be truly alive.
This is success.
Because the purpose, beauty, and satisfaction you desperately seek lies not in the accomplishment, but rather in the experience of striving towards it with everything you’ve got.
That’s the truth. That’s a promise.
A promise no short cut or hack can deliver. Not now, not ever.
