Thumb sucking and pacifier use are common in infants, but it’s important to start weaning off by age 3 to prevent potential dental issues such as misaligned teeth, an open bite, or changes in the shape of the mouth and palate. 🌟 Gradually reduce their use and try deterrent alternatives like applying Mavala nail polish, which has a bitter taste; covering the thumb with colorful stickers or Band-Aids to make sucking less appealing; or cutting off the pacifier tip to make it less satisfying. Encourage your child with positive reinforcement and be patient as they adjust. If you have questions or need more personalized advice, our office is here to help! 🦷
