A smoother, more empowered delivery: Many women who continue chiropractic care throughout their pregnancies find that the birthing process is simply easier. We can attribute this to the way regular adjustments help to keep the hips, pelvis, and spine in proper alignment. Additionally, properly functioning nerves may help women to control contractions more easily!

Relief from back pain: back pain is one of the most common complaints among pregnant women. Back pain is often caused by the loosening of joints and ligaments in preparation for delivery. Routine adjustments throughout pregnancy can help to relieve pain or injury caused by spinal instability or loosened ligaments and joints.

Optimal baby positioning: A baby who is not in the position to be delivered headfirst at the time of labor is known to be in breech position, which can lead to complications including a highly difficult vaginal delivery, or a cord prolapse.

Prenatal chiropractic care helps mama’s maintain healthy pelvic balance, so the baby has enough room to freely move head-first into the correct delivery position.

If you or someone you know is experiencing discomfort from pregnancy, send us a message or give us a call!
We’re here to support you throughout your journey!

A personalized treatment plan focused on root causes ⭐️

As a patient-centered practice, functional medicine provides the framework to identify and treat the root causes of disease, not just the symptoms.

Functional medicine asks how and why illness occurs and strives to restore optimal health by addressing the specific underlying dysfunctions.

It is this combination of focusing on individual patients and applying a comprehensive treatment path that delivers transformational results.

The spine is the central, driving center of your nervous system! It controls your mental and physical wellness, and as a result, your daily feelings.

When stress causes muscles to contract and exert pressure on the spine, the spine is compressed and can become misaligned. When it’s constricted, compressed, and pushed out of alignment, the spine can’t perform optimally.
Communication with the rest of the body is disrupted, resulting in inaccurate signals (feelings of anxiety or irritability without reason) being sent out.

Chiropractic care deals with correcting and adjusting your spine. Most people don’t associate chiropractic with stress management, but it can be an important pillar for managing stress and helping alleviate stress altogether!

A balanced alignment means a balanced body⭐️

A pelvis that is out of alignment can restrict the amount of space available for the developing baby. These pelvic torsions make it difficult for the baby to move into the most comfortable and safest birthing position.

Chiropractic care can ensure mom has proper pelvis alignment and optimal spinal neuro-biomechanical function. This allows the developing baby plenty of room to grow within the womb, therefore helping countless women avoid unnecessary interventions during the birthing process.

Prenatal chiropractic care can give momma relief with the following:

-Sciatica nerve pain
-Pelvic imbalances and torsion
-Public Symphysis Dysfunction
-Round ligament pain
-Rib pain and flaring
-Neck pain and headaches
-Constipation + Indigestion
-Reflux + Nausea
-Difficulty sleeping + Insomnia
-Anxiety + Stress
-Decrease labor time

You’re got plenty to do. Backpacks to buy and new teachers to meet. On your long to-do list, don’t forget to add chiropractic care.

The return to school can be a stressful time for your child.
Not only are back-to-school jitters emotionally taxing, but the physical effects of exposure to germs, heavy backpacks, and high-impact sports can harm your child.

Stress and Mental health: Chiropractic care is a natural method used to help reduce stress. The mind and body approach helps to ensure that your whole body is functioning properly!

By reducing stress, the body is able to be more relaxed, calm, and focused. Improving the health of the nervous system helps the body regulate conditions like anxiety and depression.

Sleep: Getting to sleep can sometimes be difficult, especially when in pain. Chiropractic care can alleviate these symptoms and help improve the quality of your sleep. Not getting enough solid rest affects your body negatively in so many ways.

Without proper sleep, concentration on the job and in class is much more difficult. Chiropractic adjustments also contribute to increased blood flow and feelings of calmness and relaxation.

Back Pain: Daily life can be a contributing factor to increased back pain, even without experiencing any trauma or accidents. Strain from playing sports and physical activities or pain caused by sitting at a desk for too long can be the culprit. Overuse, strain, and stress can cause back muscles to tighten and lose flexibility over time. Any course taken to protect the longevity of your spine health is important!

Research continues to emphasize just how important sleep is and how harmful a lack of sleep can be. Sleep deprivation is known to induce oxidative stress and increase anxiety levels. Acute sleep deprivation may even contribute to increased levels of DNA damage.

When patients report sleep disturbances or do not sleep deeply enough, this dysfunction can affect their blood pressure, heart rate, mental and cognitive status, hormones, and immune function. In addition, not getting enough sleep has been associated with chronic health conditions such as depression, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.

Functional medicine emphasizes an individualized treatment approach that starts by identifying the contributing factors to disordered sleep. Once these factors have been identified through history taking and specialty labs, a functional medicine doctor will address those concerns with lifestyle modifications, diet, and supplements.

Chiropractic treatments work to keep the integrity of the nervous system intact and are an excellent choice as a part of a wellness care plan. Regular, gentle adjustments can ensure that the daily impacts of your life are not wearing your health down over time. By performing a thorough evaluation of your health history and current physical state, a chiropractor can help you detect problems before they develop into a more serious issue, keeping you at peak function and feeling great ⭐️

How can functional medicine help with stomach bloating?

Abdominal bloating is a common symptom that can appear at any age. This can stem from various causes. It can be associated with functional gastrointestinal disorders, hormonal imbalances, or food reactions.

Typically bloating is experienced as abdominal distention and a feeling of fullness or tightness that comes and goes. It can also be associated with discomfort or pain. Pains caused by bloating feel sharp and can cause cramping in the stomach or abdomen.

A functional medicine consultation includes a full dietary assessment. This can help to uncover foods, drinks, or lifestyle practices that may be exacerbating bloating.

Comprehensive digestive stool analysis and other functional gastrointestinal tests can help to pinpoint imbalances in digestive function that might be leading to bloating. These can then be addressed with a program of diet changes and supplements to support healthy gastrointestinal function.

Functional medicine can also assess for hormone imbalances that contribute to abdominal distention. Once identified, diet and lifestyle changes that support hormonal balance can be implemented.

Meet Desirae! 🫶🏼

Dr. Desirae Brown is a licensed and board-certified Doctor of Chiropractic and Functional Medicine Practitioner. Dr. Brown earned her doctorate from Cleveland University - Kansas City in 2022. Dr. Brown entered the field of functional medicine after encountering her own health challenges, which included a wide range of symptoms from chronic fatigue to daily heartburn. Despite seeking assistance from numerous medical professionals, they all dismissed her symptoms as normal. It wasn’t until she underwent an endoscopy that she received a diagnosis of celiac disease. Following this revelation, Dr. Brown successfully alleviated her symptoms through the application of functional medicine principles.

In her free time, Dr. Brown loves nothing more than soaking in the great outdoors with her husband and their three furry companions. Whether it’s hiking through scenic trails or simply enjoying the fresh air in their backyard, you can bet that Dr. Brown is happiest when she’s surrounded by nature. But when she’s not exploring the outdoors, you can find Dr. Brown indulging her inner foodie by sampling an array of delectable cuisines. From hole-in-the-wall eateries to fine dining establishments, she’s always eager to expand her culinary horizons and savor new flavors. And let’s not forget her love for books! Dr. Brown is a devoted reader, often immersing herself in captivating novels and thought-provoking non-fiction. It’s no surprise that she’s always up for a lively discussion about the latest bestseller or a timeless classic.

While the name of the procedure may sound intimidating, dry needling is a very safe and minimally discomforting technique used for patients with musculoskeletal presentations. Dry needling improves a variety of conditions by triggering certain points on the skin with tiny needles. A thin filiform needle penetrates the skin and stimulates underlying neural, muscular and connective tissues for the evaluation and management of neuromusculoskeletal conditions, pain, and movement impairments.

What is a trigger point you may ask?

A trigger point is a small area of tightly knotted muscle fibers which can turn into a constant source of pain that goes beyond the knot. In addition to creating a painful, hard, knot, the ongoing muscle contraction also pinches your nerves and blood vessels. Touching the trigger point often causes pain in other parts of your body, also known as referral pain. If the trigger point exists, it keeps activating nerves and sending pain messages to your brain. This ongoing stimulation makes nerves more sensitive, which in turn leads to an exacerbated trigger point pain.

These trigger points often develop due to:
-Repetitive muscle movements
-Lifting heavy weights or objects & kids
-Direct injury/ Old injuries
-Poor posture/ Improper work ergonomics
-Tense muscles
-Chronic stress

Dry needling treats muscle tissue, and its goal is to reduce pain, inactivate trigger points, and restore function. Interested in scheduling an appointment? Give us a call! We’d love to connect with you 🩵

Functional medicine is based on the idea that every patient is unique and that many factors such as family history, lifestyle, and environment interact with each other. For instance, a heart disease diagnosis might result from a mix of genetics, diet, stress, and other lifestyle elements. Your treatment plan would take all of these into consideration to get to the root cause of your disease!

⭐️Advantages of Pairing Chiropractic with Massage Therapy:

QUICKER RECOVERY
Patients who receive both therapies will often experience a faster and more complete recovery as a result of their less isolated treatment. The spine, soft tissue, and all supporting structures rely on each other to function properly. Using both, chiropractic care and massage therapy, allows them everything to be addressed and treated appropriately.

EASIER ADJUSTMENTS
Massages allow for relaxation of muscle tension. When the body is more relaxed, chiropractic adjustments may be performed more easily and successfully.

INCREASED RANGE OF MOTION
The goal of chiropractic care is generally to provide increased comfort and mobility. In addition to pain, many chiropractic patients also suffer from reduced range of motion due to their injury. Much like spinal adjustments, massages are able to improve the flexibility and mobility of impacted areas such as muscles, ligaments, and other soft tissue.

IMPROVED CIRCULATION
Massage techniques are often found to enhance blood flow through congested areas and relieve lactic acid. Chiropractic care can also help by relieving pressure on nerves due to stress.

Plants and humans are more similar thank you think!
Much like a plant depends on its root system to grow and thrive, a human relies on their nervous system to live a healthy life. There is constant communication between a plant’s leaves and its roots just as there is constant communication between our brain and the rest of our body.

When vertebrae get out of alignment, or subluxated, it puts pressure on the surrounding nerves affecting communication.
When there is interruption in the signals being transmitted within our body, there is a problem. Sometimes we don’t realize there may be problems until we physically feel or see them.

A poor root system means a plant’s leaves will eventually begin wilting and browning such as a subluxation can cause us symptoms such as neck pain, sleep issues, back pain, numbness/ tingling & headaches.

Just as you would find a solution to your plants needs, it’s important to actively support your nervous system to maintain proper spinal alignment so your body has the ability to function at its best!

Here’s the honest truth: Symptoms and problems don’t develop overnight, so you can’t expect them to be resolved with just one chiropractic adjustment. Healing takes time and consistent effort. It’s crucial to be proactive about your health and maintain your spinal health to achieve and sustain long-term wellness. ⭐️

Maintaining good spinal health helps keep your body functioning optimally and reduces the risk of injuries or diseases in the future. Being proactive about your health means allowing time for problems to be corrected, improving overall wellness, and maintaining your body’s functions!
