Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day or Emancipation Day) celebrates the day that Texas slaves learned of their freedom, 2½ years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863.

The City will be closed in observance of the holiday on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. We encourage everyone to please take time to reflect on the significance of Juneteenth by learning more about the creation and meaning of the holiday, and as always stay safe. Services resume Thursday, June 20th.

Things have been running slower than usual because time, attention and other resources had to be diverted to the COVID-19 epidemic. We are gradually getting back on track and I will keep you posted in the next few days with information on times and dates for free HIV and other STI testing that we offer here at the Department of Public Health.
