Why might these 4 Bad Habits set you up for pelvic floor dysfunction? Let’s look at them one by one:
1. Peeing in the shower - ok this isn’t terrible unless your brain and body make a strong connection between hearing and feeling warm water hit your body and urination. This could lead to developing unwanted triggers to bladder urge when you hear water running or wash your hands.
2. Blowing your nose while sitting on the toilet to pee - it just kinda messes with the natural reflex that is supposed to happen at the pelvic floor when we pee. When you pee the pelvic floor is supposed to relax and lengthen. When you blow your nose and sneeze we actually want the pelvic floor to contract lift and support our urethra and bladder for the pressure the sneeze creates. 3. Power peeing - this is when you hover over the toilet instead of letting the seat support your bottom. I get it pubic toilets are gross! However, again we are messing with the automatic function of the pelvic floor. When we stand and squat the pelvic floor turns on to support our bladder and other organs. But remember, the pelvic floor is supposed to relax when we pee. This is why we have to push to force pee out when we are squatting. Your fighting your own body! 4. Kegels on the toilet - bad idea folks. Do we see a theme here? Your supposed to relax on the toilet! It’s ok to test your ability to stop the flow of urine once in a while to test pelvic floor strength but this is not to be done on a regular basis to strengthen the pelvic floor.

I know it’s weird to touch your scar! Some don’t even like looking at it. If your scar is numb you can stimulate the skin early on to facilitate the return of skin sensation. If your scar is super sensitive and you can’t stand clothing or anything else touching it, watch this video to see how you can reduce the sensitivity. Gently rubbing different textures above and below the scar works wonders.

It’s C-section Awareness in April. Here are some tips for early recovery from this common yet very serious surgery. Yes, there is rehab for this. Stay tuned for more videos this week.

It was a family affair at Pelvic Health of Southeast Texas. My husband put together my new kneeling chair and cubby shelf while Marcus drew me a pelvis. Nate set up my business cards and brochures and Ava played on my hi-lo table😂. It’s not 100% accurate to call myself a solopreneur since I’m not in this alone. I have the love and support from my dedicated husband and crazy kids. #gratefulthankfulblessed #family #mompreneur #pelvichealthsetx #physiotherapist #beaumonttx

I wonder how many people have bruised or broken their tailbones this way.🤔. Did you know that pelvic physical therapist are very likely the best trained medical professional to see after a fall on the tailbone. Often my patients will go to the ER after a fall like this or see there doctor after pain doesn’t resolve in a few days. The X-rays might show a fracture (or they might not)but even if there is a break or displacement there isn’t a whole lot more conservative treatment a physician can offer their patient beyond pain meds and maybe a special seat cushion. The tailbone AKA coccyx is part of the pelvis anatomy and a major structure that provides attachment for nearly all your pelvic floor muscles. So, even though the coccyx might not be broken you can have pain in the muscles from the trauma or spasms that occur after trauma. Pelvic PT’s have are uniquely trained to treat not only the injury to the bone itself but also the muscles than live on and around it. If your having pain with sitting, spasms in your buttock, shooting or aching pain in the rectum or genitalia after a tailbone injury don’t suffer in silence. PM me, call or email me🔝 (see profile bio) to schedule you pelvic physical therapy evaluation so you start feeling better. #pelvichealthsetx #tailboneinjury #taibonepain #physicaltherapy #pelvicpt #beaumonttx

What’s the worst advise you were given when you finally confided to your health care provider that you were having pain with intercourse? I have heard a lot of terrible advise but this one is the most common😡. “You need to just relax and drink a couple of glasses of wine”!🤬. It is not normal to have pain with inserting a tampon, during vaginal exams or during penetrative intercourse. A pelvic physical therapist can help you find out why you are having pain and cure it! Send me a pm to find out how. #pelvicpain #painwithsex #pelvicfloorphysicaltherapy #pelvichealth #womenshealth #beaumonttx #southeasttexas

Skin rolling is one type of scar mobilization
C-section scar soft tissue mobilization. Once you have been cleared by your doctor and hopefully seen a pelvic floor physical therapist I highly recommend self-care for your C-section scar. This can really help improve the look and feel of the scar, reduce the pulling or tugging feeling down there, improve the ability to bend backward thus helping your back, and reduce hypersensitivity and normalize sensation on and around the scar. It is very important to make sure your scar is well healed before starting this type of therapy even though it is relatively superficial. Check out my Instagram account for for videos on what this massage looks like at danielle.files.pelvicpt 1. Start with gentle touch with a cotton ball or q-tip 2. Try some circles around the scar 3. Pinch and lift the scar 4. Pinch lift and go up with one hand and down with the other 5.
