TEAM USA!š Fun fact: Gymnastics was a HUGE part of my life growing up! I competed as a level 9 gymnast, which is one level away from the highest level there is! It was my childhood dream to go to the Olympics! In high school, I ultimately decided to transition my gymnastics career to cheerleading, since furthering my skills would have required me moving away from my parents, being home schooled, and not having a normal high school experience. All that to say, I still have a true love for gymnastics! Watching Team USA Gymnastics dominate is the best! But Team USA Orthodontics would be pretty cool, donāt you think?! š #teamusa #orthodontist #olympics #braces #office #gymnastics #elpaso #eptx #elpasotx #gymnast #orthodontics

Have you ever had it where you wear your retainer at night and your bite feels different when you wake up? Then over time, a tooth starts to shift? Some patients have come to my office for this exact issue and most often itās because the contacts between the upper and lower teeth are too heavy! Now there are things that I may need to do to address this, but hereās one thing I tell those patients to do once Iāve addressed those heavy contacts! #boardcertifiedorthodontist #braces #straightteeth #orthodontics #orthodontist #crookedteeth #dentistry #elpasotx #eptx #elpaso
What to do if you go home and realize a bracket isnāt fully engaged in the wire. Weād usually prefer you come in so we can close it for you! But if you canāt for whatever reason, hereās what you can try to do! Note: this technique only works for self-ligating brackets. If youāre starting to see movement of the tooth thatās not engaged, itās unlikely that youāll be able to close it on your own. #orthodontics #braces #teeth #tipoftheday #howto #dentist #straightteeth #orthodontist #elpasolocal #eptx #elpaso

What dental items should you avoid? Letās see my top ones here. #5 - Charcoal toothpaste: Charcoal toothpaste has become popular as a whitening toothpaste, but the reality is that charcoal is far too abrasive for your enamel! Save your enamel and stay away from this one! #4 - Drug store dental tool kits: While it may seem great to have more tools to help keep things clean, if you donāt know how to use the dental tools, you could do more harm than good. Keep the professional cleaning to your hygienist so you donāt end up irritating your gums and teeth! #3 - Over-the-counter night guards: Night guards are usually used when someone finds themselves clenching and grinding. We create night guards that put your jaw in the most relaxed position, eliminating pressure on the jaw joint. Dependent on whatās going on with your jaws, we make sure the opposing teeth hit the splint appropriately. Itās near impossible for a boil and bite dental guard to do all of that for you, and thereās a decent chance it could actually exacerbate TMD! #2 - Alcohol-containing mouthwash: While thereās some debate on efficacy of mouthrinses, most dental practitioners agree that you should avoid mouthrinses with alcohol in it. Alcohol can dry the mouth out (which can actually make you more prone to decay!) and remove some of the helpful bacteria in your mouth! #1 - Hard toothbrushes: Unless youāre buying this to scrub around the kitchen, DO NOT USE A HARD TOOTHBRUSH! Itās too abrasive and will wear your gums and teeth away over time! Always use a soft toothbrush! Studies have shown that the bristles are just as effective at removing plaque and food without the increased risk of abrasion! #themoreyouknow #oralhealth #orthodontist #helpfultips #tipsandtricks #elpasotx #elpaso #dentistry #elpasotx #elpaso #dentalhygiene #dentalassitant #teeth #publichealth #teeth #predental
Wondering what toothpaste is best? Well it really depends on what youāre struggling with! Hereās a list of some good toothpastes for common struggles: 1) For preventing cavities: Crest Pro Health Advanced or Clinpro 5000 (prescription only). Active ingredient is fluoride, with the most common being sodium fluoride (NaF). Mono-fluoro-phosphate (MFP) and stannous fluoride (SnF) are also used. 2) For gum disease: Crest Gum Detoxify and Paradontax Active Gum Repair. Active ingredient is stannous fluoride (SnF), which contains specific antimicrobial ingredients that target bacteria in the mouth to prevent plaque from forming. 3) For whiter looking teeth: Ultrabrite All in One Advanced Whitening or Colgate Optic White Advanced. While these do not truly whiten your teeth (no toothpastes do), they usually contain mild abrasives and bleaching agents such asĀ silica, pyrophosphates, hydrogen peroxide orĀ carbamide peroxide that can help to remove the extrinsic stains. 4) For sensitivity: Sensodyne Rapid Relief or Sensodyne Pronamel. Sensitivity usually happens when the tiny tubules leading to the nerve of your teeth are open. Active ingredients for these are stannous fluoride and potassium nitrate. Potassium nitrate releases potassium ions that help to desensitize the nerve inside the tooth. Stannous fluoride can also relieve sensitivity by creating a protective layer over the tubules in your enamel that lead to the nerves. 5) For bad breath: Crest Pro-Health Advanced and Colgate Total. Bad breath is often caused by an overgrowth of bacteria. Stannous fluoride is often the antimicrobial ingredient in these toothpastes, as it affects bacterial metabolism and reduces the bacterials ability to live in acidic environments. 6) For your kids: Tomās Kidās Natural or Colgate Kidās toothpaste. The active ingredient in kidās toothpaste is similar to adult toothpastes, just a lower dosage of it! Check the label to see if it has an ADA seal! All of those have gone throug
