Dallas Stars Learn to Play is back at the El Paso Hockey Association! Keeping Hockey in the Sun City
Since its origin in 2001, the El Paso Hockey Association (EPHA) has grown to encompass youth and high school hockey, junior hockey, collegiate hockey, and adult recreational hockey programs. There are nearly 600 individuals of all ages who participate in at least one of the EPHA’s many hockey programs. Below is the history of the Sun City’s only ice-hockey organization.
Youth and High School Hockey
The El Paso Hockey Association was founded in 2001 by Cory Herman, a former semi-professional hockey player. Housed in the El Paso County Coliseum, the program started with fewer than 50 players. Only two years later, the first high school teams were organized and by 2007, both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams had combined to win five championship titles in the Greater Texas Hockey League.
Because of the program’s growth, the EPHA moved from the El Paso County Coliseum to the El Paso County Coliseum Events Center, which became dedicated solely to hockey and figure skating programs in 2006.
