Chamizal Stake Conference 11-12 February

Just a quick reminder that our Stake Conference is scheduled this weekend, Saturday and Sunday February 11 and 12. All meetings will be held at the Sumac Drive Stake Center located at 1212 Sumac Drive. We invite you to join us as we welcome Elder Art Rascon from the Quorum of the Seventy who will preside at our conference this year. Elder Rascon was sustained in 2020 and before being called, served as a stake president in Houston, TX. He was a prominent journalist and news caster with ABC news and is a graduate of BYU. Our services will be as follows:

Saturday, 11 February - 3:30 pm - Stake Leadership Session - All bishoprics, adult quorum and organization presidencies, counselors and secretaries serving on the Ward Council should attend.

Saturday, 11 February - 7:00 pm - Adult General Session - all members 18 years and up - special invitation extended to all YSA members. Cookies following session.

Sunday, 12 February - 8:30 am - Youth Session - All youth - Doughnuts after session.

Sunday, 12 February - 10:00 am - General Session - All stake members.

Saturday Night Youth Fireside - 19 November

A quick reminder that we will have our annual outdoor fireside on Saturday, 19 November at 6:30 pm. The fireside is at President Martinez’s home located at 9125 McFall Drive. We are pleased to have a Utah musician join us to share music and stories of faith.

Bring a warm jacket and a camp chair for sitting. We’ll have a Hot Chocolate Bar and somemores. Hope to see you there.

There is a tremendous need for donated blood in our community and this is one way we can show our support and serve the citizens of our area. Just as we can be saviors on Mt. All youth, ages 12-18, especially youth in high school, and those getting ready to apply to BYU for Fall 2023 are invited with parents to attend this admissions information event on Wednesday, August 31st at 7 pm at the Sumac building.

All youth ages 12-18 are invited to a special youth fireside on Sunday, October 24th at 7:00 pm held at the home of Pres. Martínez at 9125 McFall Drive. Youth should bring their own chair to sit outside around the fire. Our special guest speaker is Sis. Jennifer Han, a champion female boxer and church member.

OPPORTUNTY FOR AFGHAN REFUGEE ASSISTANCE AT FORT BLISS

From our area presidency for the Chamizal Stake:

The United States is evacuating Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants and isprocessing them at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas before sending them to a sponsoring resettlement agency. The International Rescue Committee (IRC), the agency responsible for processing Afghan refugees, has given The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints an opportunity to provide volunteers to help welcome and support the evacuees at Fort Bliss.

Effective immediately, and through approximately the end of the calendar year, volunteers are needed to work two-week shifts (12-16-hour each day). All volunteers will need to meet a set of minimum requirements and provide their own transportation to El Paso. The IRC will arrange for housing and meals in El Paso.

If you have an interest in participating, please contact your bishop directly, for more information including member requirements.

With sadness we announce the loss of a member of our stake. Former Bishop, Nicolas Garcia, a member of the Chaparral branch passed away today after battling years with Parkinson's. He is survived by his wife and 3 sons. Please keep the Garcia family in your prayers.

For those who desire to participate, but for personal reasons choose not to attend in-person, a YouTube link will be provided for the General Session of conference via virtual streaming. It is official. The Church’s web site for the Albuquerque Temple is letting us book appointments to begin June 15th for Phase 3 proxy work. That means there are endowments, sealings, and initiatories.

Here is the schedule:

Sealing - 8:30, 12:30, 4:30, 6:30

Initiatory - 10:30, 11, 2:30, 3, 6:30, 7

Baptistry - Same as now

Living sealings and endowments have to be bookef by phone and have different times.

We will have our Chamizal Stake Conference this coming Sunday, 14 February, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 pm. There will only be a Sunday session. Those desiring to attend the conference in-person are asked to arrive no later than 9:15 a.m. so that we can carefully seat as many people as possible for social distancing. We will limit in-person attendance, based on the room available for social distancing, so please understand that it is possible that some attendees may be turned away.

Please do not come in person if you are not feeling well. Additionally, members with high risk health conditions are encouraged to view the conference via the Zoom information below.

All members are invited to view the conference via Zoom broadcast at the Zoom Link provided below. The Zoom link will offer an option to view the conference with Spanish Translation. Chamizal Stake return to in-person Sacrament services

As you may have heard from your ward leadership, that the Chamizal Stake will resume in-person Sacrament Services beginning this Sunday, December 20th. Just as we had been doing before this recent break, we are asking wards to limit their attendance to no more than 100 people for the live service.

Your wards may also incorporate a live broadcast of the Sunday services for those who desire to participate, but who wish to stay in their homes. However, a broadcast will not include the broadcasting of the administration of the sacrament.

Please check with your ward leaders to determine when your ward will meet for the live service and any additional information unique to your individual wards.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and the Happiest of the New Year.

We love and miss you all and look forward to the time when we can visit with you all again.

In light of President Nelson's message yesterday to Give Thanks, we are encouraging members to participate in a Facebook Thanksgiving Challenge and we need your help to get it started. Our goal is to have as many people share with friends and family their appreciation for God's blessings.

How does it work? It's simple! Make a short video (30 seconds to 1 minute) about the wonderful things for which you are grateful and post it on your page and tag a friend or two (including family) and challenge them to do the same and tag their friends too.

Next, post your video on Facebook, tag a friend (or two) and challenge them to make a similar video and tag other friends/family.

For those that would like to pay their respects, the Brown family invites all to participate in a Drive-by Celebration of Life on Friday, November 13th, from 3:00-5:00 pm at 10000 Monaco Drive.
** Drive-by participants should stay in their cars and wear a mask. The family will also be wearing a mask to ensure everyone’s safety!**
