This oak mantelpiece was brought into El Paso via train rail sometime before the turn of the century, so it is well over 125 years old. A client had a new oven installed, but they couldn’t find the same size as the original. As a result, they were left with an awkward opening above the oven. As a remedy, my client wanted an open shelf there, so I made it happen today. A false back and shelf above the oven were installed and painted to match the kitchen island.

I’m starting a new furniture restoration project this week. This cool little kitchen island will get a modern day makeover.

On my workbench today is an old decorative mirror with shelves (glass mirrors are removed for the work). I’ll be refinishing it and staining it a rich espresso brown. The client will use this in their game room.
