Orthopedic Injections
Orthopedic injections are often the first step to treat patients without surgery, helping to eliminate pain caused by inflammation and aid in healing. Orthopaedic injections deliver medication to a specific area of the body to assist in treating and reducing pain caused by inflammation. Injections may not completely eliminate all severe orthopedic symptoms, be it immediately (sometimes even permanently), but they can serve to significantly aid in pain reduction and allow increased comfort and function with activities of daily living.
Orthopedic injections are available to treat osteoarthritis and other symptoms in the knees, shoulders, hips and other joints. Here's more: https://www.orthoep.com/blog/injection-therapy-as-a-alternative-to-surgery

BURN INJURIES
There are many different types of burns and it is important to know how each is classified. Burn injuries are measured in “degrees”…the larger the degree, the worse the injury: https://www.orthoep.com/blog/burn-injuries
CHRONIC SHOULDER INSTABILITY
Did you know that the shoulder is the only joint in your body that can rotate 360 degrees? It can lift, rotate, and reach making it the most “movable” joint. But, because it has the greatest range of motion, it can also have the most instability.

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.
The Flag Resolution stated "That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."
SHOULDER PAIN?
What most people call the shoulder is really several joints that combine with tendons and muscles to allow a wide range of motion in the arm — from scratching your back to taking the perfect golf swing to being able to do your daily chores. You may feel pain only when you move your shoulder…or all of the time. The pain may be temporary or it may continue and require medical diagnosis and treatment.
Ortho El Paso treats shoulder pain including:
o Tendon inflammation (bursitis or tendinitis) or tendon tear
o Instability
o Arthritis
o Fracture (broken bone)
Other much less common causes of shoulder pain are tumors, infection, and nerve-related problems.

HAND PAIN?
Hand pain can be caused by disease or injury affecting any of the structures in the hand, including the bones, muscles, joints, tendons, blood vessels, or connective tissues.
Here’s why you may have hand pain:
o Hand pain is one feature of joint inflammation (arthritis) that may be felt in the hand.
o Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are the two most common types of arthritis in the hand.
Repetitive motion injuries, including carpal tunnel syndrome, can cause pain in the wrist and hand.
o Tumors of the structures in the hand are a very rare cause of hand or finger pain.
o Certain conditions such as diabetes can cause damage to the nerves, resulting in pain, numbness, or tingling of the arms and legs. This phenomenon, known as peripheral neuropathy, can also sometimes cause hand pain.
o DeQuervain's disease is a swelling and inflammation of the tendon around the thumb, causing pain in the thumb and lower arm.
o Trauma or injury to any of the structures in the hand is another common cause of hand pain.

National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual, treasured Celebration of Life that is held in hundreds of communities nationwide, and around the world, on the first Sunday in June. It is a CELEBRATION for those who have survived, an INSPIRATION for those recently diagnosed, a gathering of SUPPORT for families, and an OUTREACH to the community.
On National Cancer Survivors Day, people around the world will unite to recognize cancer survivors, raise awareness of the ongoing challenges cancer survivors face, and – most importantly – celebrate life.
Yep...there's a day for that! National Heat Awareness Day, declared a national day by the National Weather Service, is the annual observance created to spread awareness on the dangers of extreme heat and heat-related illnesses.
Extreme heat and humidity is the number one cause of weather-related deaths in the U.S., with over 700 Americans dying every year. Knowing the signs of heat exhaustion and staying hydrated is the best way to avoid heat-related illnesses.
THE HEAT IS ON. STAY HYDRATED.
Our extreme heat has arrived. Exercising outside in the higher temperatures will be more challenging. Hydration will play an important role in performance, injury prevention and recovery especially when engaged in a high impact sporting activity.

GRILLING SAFETY TIPS FOR YOUR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
According to data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, an average of 22,000 patients per year go to emergency rooms because of burns involving grills. Especially vulnerable are the hands because that body part is generally closest to the fire.
GRILLING SAFETY TIPS:
o For propane grills, check the gas tank for leaks before use in the months ahead.
o Wear safety gloves made especially for grilling.
o Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
o Place the grill well away from the home, deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
o Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it.
o Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grilling area.
o If you use starter fluid when charcoal grilling, only use charcoal starter fluid. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire. When you have or are finished grilling, let the coals cool completely before disposing in a metal container.
o Never leave your grill unattended when in use.
In the event you get burnedd, quick treatment is important and can lessen the damage. First aid for minor burns may involve:
o Cooling the burn with running water or a cold damp cloth. Not ice—ice may cause more damage to the skin.
o Do not use butter, grease, oils, or ointments on the burn.
o Cover the burn with sterile gauze or a clean cloth.
o Do not use a fluffy cloth such as a towel or blanket.
o Take an over-the-counter pain reliever, like acetaminophen (Tylenol).
o Do not break or pop any blisters. This may result in an infection. If you see signs of an infection, get medical attention immediately.

Friday is Bike-to-Work Day. We're not sure that when this day was created, a city of our size was considered. With that in mind, here are some bike safety rules.
First, start with the basics. Understand the road is a shared space and bicyclists should follow the same rules and responsibilities as drivers:
o Ride in a straight line, single file, in the same direction as traffic.
o Obey all traffic signs and signals.
o Stop and look left-right-left for traffic before entering a street.
o Bikers should use bike lanes whenever available.
o Side view of helmet showing V shape straps
Bikers should always wear a helmet that fits level on the head and low on the forehead — one or two finger-widths above your eyebrow. Also, be sure to adjust the slider on both side straps to form a “V” shape under, and slightly in front of, the ears. Lock the slider if possible.
