JOIN US FOR THE INAUGRATION OF THUNDERBIRD PLAYGROUND! KIDS, WEAR YOUR COSTUMES. SEE YOU NEXT SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30 AT 10 AM.
Hello Neighborhood Friends! Hope you can make it! Spread the word!
Tada!
We met with the City today and have exciting news--our new sign will be installed tomorrow! Also pending is the installation of additional trees and shrubs in October once the weather is cooler (so that the trees survive) and final rock work/site cleanup. A four-year labor of love is nearly complete!!!! Thanks to everyone who made it possible.
Drumroll again please…we present to you the final version of our donor plaque! Please review and let us know if any final changes are needed prior to July 17. Thank you to all of our donors, we wish we could have listed everyone who supported our gorgeous playground.

Thunderbird Playground: a public-private partnership between the Coronado Hills Neighborhood Association and the City of El Paso
Coronado Hills neighborhood is nestled at the base of the Franklin Mountains, with access to the largest urban state park in the country. It has gorgeous views and some of the best hiking in the nation, but there’s something we lack: a playground in walking distance. Fortunately, the City of El Paso’s installation of a trailhead off the top of Thunderbird Road has presented an opportunity to change this. The City will assist us with installation and maintenance if our neighborhood association (CHNA), a 501c3 non-profit organization, raises funds for all equipment.
With District 1’s support, CHNA and the Department of Parks and Recreation have worked together to design a space that will appeal to the diverse population of Coronado Hills, regardless of age or lifestyle. There will be playscapes for children big and small, a metal shade structure, wheelchair accessible picnic tables with amazing views of the mountain, and ADA compliant exercise equipment. Public art is planned for Phase II.
The total amount needed for all equipment is $125,000 and we’ve already raised $25,000. There is a naming opportunity if any foundation or family is able to underwrite all equipment. And while donations of any amount are greatly appreciated, we are working with the City to develop beautiful features in the playground to recognize large contributions.
Thanks for your interest in Thunderbird Playground. Please help us make this dream a reality!
