Hey Professional Martial arts instructors, letβs support each other more. We are on the same team.
Iβm not naΓ―ve enough to think that everyone in the Martial arts business is a good person who has their student's best interest in mind all the time. But it has been my experience that the majority of instructors are good people doing their best to provide a good product. Of course, there will be times when you might want to take a stand against something that you think is wrong, but for the most part I believe that we should support each other, regardless of style.
One way that we can do this is by not practicing the bullying behaviors that we tell our students to not do. For example, a couple years ago,οΏΌ on Facebook, I came across video someone posted featuring a martial arts demonstration being performed by some less-than-athletic, but well intentioned middle age students. While I admit that it wasn't the most skilled presentation I have ever seen, they were sincerely trying their hardest and putting themselves on the line. None of them will probably ever be world champions, but they had some skills and were certainly being benefited from their martial arts training.
I was blown away by the negative comments that this video received , even from friends of mine that look up to. I read things like "Try that in the UFC.... That would never work on the street ....Thatβs not a kick, thatβs a leg spasm....Take a break and go have a cupcake"...etc.
C'mon friends, If you do this kind of thing, knock it off! It's called cyber bullying and obviously it's not just done by kids. It is what we are working hard to stop.
Constructive feedback is one thing. Blatant disrespect towards others is yet another.
Trying to look good by making others look bad is no way to live your life.
