Honoring Dr Jimenez today. This is for you, Dr Jimenez.

My Brown-eyed Bubba on the left, my Blue-eyed Bubba on the right. See that American flag sticker on Brad's helmet? We put that on a few days after 9/11. We had taken Brad to Columbia, Mo, to have his skull fitted for a new helmet, back in August 2001. It was supposed to arrive on September 11, 2001, by air. He had just about outgrown his old helmet, it was getting too tight. And when I found out that air traffic was grounded, I was frantic because we didn't know when air traffic would resume. I thought he won't have a helmet and his skull won't grow correctly and the surgery by Dr Jimenez would be a loss. I was strategizing (is that a word?) on how fast I could drive to Columbia, Mo, but his helmet was already shipped and I had no idea where it was, or what airport to drive to. So I was panicked and freaking out. Thousands of people died within a few hours and here I was worried about a helmet for a 6 month old. Yes, I was completely devastated by the loss of life and destruction that these evil beings had caused. And, it affected me directly, because of a plastic helmet. And I prayed for our nation and I prayed about a small plastic helmet, while the world stopped spinning in our little corner of it. I prayed and I cried, like so many Americans.
But God is bigger. When I got home from work on 9/11, there was a small plain brown cardboard box on the front porch by the door. Postmarked Columbia, Mo. His little helmet had made it to Jackson International Airport and was already on the ground before the first plane hit. And the relief flooded into my soul and I cried and thanked God for allowing me this when so many people had much bigger problems than my own. But God hears our prayers, and He doesn't see one need more than the other. We pray for what we pray for. And if we pray earnestly with all of our heart, He answers. You just have to pay attention.
So, that's the story of the little American flag sticker. Both of the sweet potatoes in this picture now wear helmets with the American flag on it, they are both in the USAF. And my Green-eyed Bubba runs into burning buildings while others run out, to extinguish the flames and save lives as Fire Fighter in Jackson, Ms. I have 3 sons who are heroes. And a daughter who survived Leukemia and chemo and is a hero in her own right.
I am way blessed beyond measure. Thank you, God, for blessing me.

Thank you Michelle Jones for sharing your story for craniosynostosis awareness month!Dr David M Yates DMD, MD, FACS El Paso Children's Hospital

Kimber is our IVF miracle baby born Dec. 10th 2021. She had us wrapped around her finger the moment she was born, but we noticed something wasn't right with her head shape. We were assured that she was just a big baby that was wedged in utero. She was 9lbs 2oz 21½ inches, she was a big girl! It took until she was 6 months old to finally get a diagnosis left lamboidal craniosynostosis. We were told by our local team that Kimber would need surgery a big one 6 hours with multiple blood transfusions. My momma heart was broken how could someone so tiny go through all that? We were told this procedure would be purely cosmetic as lamboidal doesn't usually cause cranial pressure. We proceeded with scheduling her surgery with them for Oct. 17th 2022 Kimber would be 10 months old by that time. Over the next few weeks I couldn't come to terms with this surgery, it wasn't sitting right with me. I had joined a cranio group on Facebook after receiving the diagnosis, and that's where I found a lady talking about Dr. Jimenez in El Paso TX who would perform his endo surgery on older babies! I immediately reached out. Dr. Jimenez's team got back to me quickly and we were able to get surgery scheduled for Oct 18th 2022. We canceled the local CVR surgery and drove to El Paso TX from Mississippi on a gut feeling. Dr. Jimenez did not disappoint we felt immediate relief and comfort in meeting him and later Dr. Yates. We were scheduled for different appointments in a short time so they could collect all details needed before surgery, one of those being an eye exam which noted cranial pressure. We proceeded with Dr. Jimenez & Dr. Yates surgery endo for lamboidal on a 10 month old baby girl. During surgery the Dr's measured Kimber's cranial pressure which was a 22, normal range for her would have been between 1-10, after the release it was a 9, this surgery totaled 3 hours from the time they took her to the time we were back with her, actual surgery time was 1 hr. Recovery was easy with Kimber breastfeeding immediately after surgery, a one night stay in the hospital for monitoring. Kimber was fitted for a cranial helmet and wore it 23hrs a day for 9 months, we will continue yearly follow ups with a local neurosurgeon until Kimber is 5. We are thankful for Dr. Jimenez the procedure he pioneered years ago and his amazing team.
