Safety Pick of the Day: Gas Theft Prevention
Park in well-lit, well-traveled locations.
If your car has a locking gas cap or fuel door, ensure it’s locked.
If your car doesn’t have a lock for the fuel, consider upgrading to a locking fuel cap.
On campus, immediately report thefts or suspicious activity to UTEP Police 915-747-5611
How can I tell if I've been a victim of gas theft?
Keep track of your fuel level before you leave your car and make sure the level hasn't changed when you return. Other signs of gasoline theft are puddles under the car, a gasoline smell around the vehicle, or scratches on the gas cap.
Interested in student loan forgiveness? If you get an unexpected call or text saying they can do it quickly for an upfront processing fee, it’s a scam.

Safety Pick of the Day: Prevent Vehicle Theft
When parking and exiting your vehicle:
Take your vehicle's key; do not leave it in or on your vehicle.
Close and lock all windows and doors when you park.
Park in well-lit areas if possible.
Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially if they can be seen from outside the vehicle.

Get ready to beat the heat, El Paso! With triple-digit temperatures expected in the coming days, the City of El Paso and Office of Emergency Management are stepping up to open cooling centers from June 5-7. Let's come together to support our community, especially our senior residents, by staying cool and preventing heat-related illnesses. Remember to check on your elderly neighbors, friends, and family who may be at risk.
The cooling centers offer a refreshing indoor, air-conditioned space for residents to relax and cool down throughout the day. These centers are free and available for everyone in need. If you prefer a literary cool-down, visit any of our City Public Libraries open Wednesday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 6 p.m.
For our furry friends, make sure they stay safe by providing shade, water, and avoiding walks during peak temperatures. Let's make sure everyone stays cool and hydrated during this heatwave! ☀️💦🐾

Use safer payment methods
Buy from a seller or site that accepts safer payment methods like credit cards, which have legal protections if something goes wrong with the transaction or delivery, or a secure online payment system that protects buyers in case there is a problem.
Scammers often ask you to pay in ways that make it tough to get your money back.
Don’t pay with wire transfers through companies like MoneyGram or Western Union.
Don’t pay using gift cards like iTunes or Google Play, cash reload cards like MoneyPak, or cryptocurrency. Paying with these methods is like sending cash — once it’s gone, you generally can’t get it back. Find out what to do if you think you sent money to a scammer.
Don’t buy from anyone who wants you to pay outside the marketplace’s payment system. If you do, you’ll lose any protection the site offers and you probably won’t get the item or a refund.
Buying From an Online Marketplace Many online marketplaces are selling new and used goods, from home appliances to video games.
It is a week where we take the time to honor men and women in law enforcement who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. The weeklong recognition coincides with National Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th.
May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
Look twice for motorcycles, especially at intersections.
Use turn signals and check blind spots before changing lanes.
Avoid following a motorcycle too closely.
