Hi, everyone! There has been a slight problem with our website, but it should be back up in the next 48 hours. Apologies if you tried to visit our site and found it down!
Which version do you like better? Black or Gold?
Traditional
Repeat after me: there is nothing wrong with traditional. It is a style and will not hurt me. This particular kitchen was looking dated not because of the STYLE, but because it needed a refresh. We painted the cabinets two different colors (wall vs island), updated the plumbing and hardware, and added a valance to lean into the look. Sometimes, you just need to refresh what you have instead of finding something new.
Tropical (But not coastal)
Not all tropical styles have to be coastal. Sandy-looking quartz counters, reflective backsplash, and shell pendants give the space a very tropical vibe without pushing into coastal territory. We changed the cabinet tone with a new stain and glaze so that the yellow was neutralized.
Contemporary
This is a very different way to do contemporary than the last we showed you. Once again, the emphasis is on simplicity and natural elements. This particular kitchen was only an update, not a full remodel, so the cabinets are all original. While they worked with the rest of the house, the counters did not! You don't always need to completely start over to get the space you want. We changed out the flooring, counter, sink, faucet, and backsplash, as well as the sconce, before adding a cushion for the window seat. A relatively painless refresh was all that was needed!
Traditional
Traditional can be difficult in small spaces because there are so many details that can quickly become overwhelming. In order to mitigate those problems, we did a few things. Firstly, we used white cabinets with a glaze instead of wood. This shows the details without putting too much weight there, visually. We also didn't take the backsplash all the up to the upper cabinets. This gives more wall space, making the room feel taller. We also mixed cabinet types. In this one image, you can see the traditional panel doors, flat panel drawers, open shelves, and a glass front door. Finally, the black counter is eye-catching, but it also looks relatively narrow. It grounds the design without weighing it down.
Contemporary
This is a perfect style for small spaces because it keeps things simple and clean. The doors are flat, the concrete counter ends in a waterfall edge, and the sleek stainless on the appliances and hardware keep the look streamlined. We added a bit of texture with marble subway tiles but offset the pattern to relax the look just a bit.
True Transitional
Transitional is essentially a mix of traditional and contemporary, which this kitchen epitomizes. Similar to classic styles, transitional designs often feel like they are outside of time. You can see that we mixed elements of both traditional and contemporary to get the design. Shaker alongside flat front cabinets. Mercury glass lights and floral valances with sleek black appliances. The bold blue subway tiles in a herringbone pattern are the stars of this kitchen, though.
Casual Traditional
This 1950s house is located on an Island next to the Sacramento River, so this client wanted to open up the area and have a Casual Traditional, island feel. We have shutter-style door fronts on the island and pineapple accent tiles behind the cooktop. Bamboo flooring, open basket storage, and a wood countertop with draining slants for easy cleanup.
Transitional
Simple and timeless medium-stained cabinets with a clean quartz countertop give the handmade green tiles a place to shine. Lots of lower drawers to help organize, as well as a pantry with lots of rollouts.
Modern Farmhouse
Simple, crisp, clean, and organized. Everything has a place, and it is easy to find. Not all farmhouse kitchens are white, but many modern farmhouse kitchens are. Finishes are simple, textures are minimal, and the emphasis is on a clean but comfortable space. In this kitchen, as with the last, the elongated, matte tiles bring a contemporary edge, albeit a much softer one here.
Rustic Contemporary
Those are two styles that don't often mix but can be a lot of fun together. Materials and color were important here. The range features a wok burner, the island has a custom-made walnut butcher block counter, and the clients were NOT afraid of color. The grey, shaker wall cabinets are complemented by the sleek island's flat-panel doors in wood grain, and the dark tones make the elongated, matte subway tiles stand out instead of disappearing.
Classic European Traditional
Most homes made in this style use warm wood cabinets for the whole kitchen, but I decided to try a different take. This kitchen needs to serve the family for at least the next 30 years. To make feel more timeless, the wall cabinets were painted white with a light glaze to accent the doors and dark hardware to complement them. Rustic accents, like the tongue-and-groove ceiling, copper prep sink, and antiqued chandeliers, bring more of that old-world feel to this California home.
Classic
This kitchen features a classic design style! Originally built in 1909, the update features shaker cabinets, black counters, and an apron-front sink. We created it in 2002, but because of the style, it still holds up. In a world where trends are changing faster than ever, sometimes, classic is best.
This month, we are focusing not on any specific project but on a general room: the kitchen. When you are trying to find what you want or what suits your home and style, sometimes, you just need a snapshot for inspiration. So, here are some kitchens to help inspire you!
Not everything needs to be hidden away. Open shelves are a great option for both display and commonly used objects. They can also be incorporated with standard cabinets. You don’t have to live with either or
Normally, we love banquettes, but this one was really not working for the family. Instead, we added pantry space and rotated the table to suit the newly remodeled room.
Lighting is a very important thing and really helps set the mood. While the dining area had a light with more traditional accents, these pendents are pure fun. The mercury glass adds glitz without making the space glam and the blue keeps to the room’s theme
I tend towards transitional or classic styles for a very important reason: Because you can personalize it easily without it feeling jarring. The kitchen and the breakfast nook shift styles, making them into distinct spaces, but they still feel connected and whole
The back door needed to be replaced. There was nothing to be done about that. We went for a model that was less intrusive and added a lot more light to the room.
The same tile can look dramatically different depending on two factors: pattern and grout.
We went for a herringbone pattern, making the room feel taller. The grout is charcoal, emboldening the tile color and adding drama.
Do you want multiple spaces in your kitchen? We made this coffee station feel special by changing the tiles but keeping to the same color scheme
Because we went with a single color for the backsplash and kept the cabinets simple, we were able to use a busier counter without it causing problems to the eye. Instead, it keeps your attention to the center of the room, grounding you

A lot of times, people feel like they need white or stainless steel appliances if they have a white kitchen. You don’t. We went with black stainless, giving the darker tile something to play against and making the white cabinets fade away instead of stand out.
These WalkerZanger Tiles come with natural variation, and this beautiful blue is always a showstopper. The white cabinets really allow them to shine.
There are so many different varieties of sinks out there to suit your life. We chose one that came with all sorts of accessories (cutting board, strainer, drying rack) that all sit inside the sink itself, perfect for this active family
