Today was an amazing day for our great Nation as we announced phase 2 of construction at Sky River Casino! This next phase will begin with the parking garage and culminate with a 300-room hotel and resort. This development will not only be great for the citizens of Wilton Rancheria but will also provide much additional hospitality, jobs, and entertainment to the entire region!

It’s not often that our Tribe makes the news back in Wisconsin but today, Chairman Tarango had the pleasure of being interviewed regarding the repatriation of stolen artifacts that made their way to a library in Mukwonago, WI.

We are so proud of our Cultural Preservation Department for their work to bring these sacred items back to the Tribe!

This land is a portion of the Tribe’s original Rancheria allotment which was lost during the Termination Era in 1958. On February 12 & 13th, Wilton Rancheria had the honor of co-hosting the 2nd Annual MMIP Summit and Day of Action at the Sacramento Convention Center and State Capitol alongside the Yurok Tribe.
The goal of this two-day event was to not only bring awareness and amplify MMIP stories but also call for real action and substantive change.
The Summit consisted of cultural sharing and three panels which brought together world-class experts to share their knowledge and experience. Day One concluded with a Tribal Leader/State Leader Roundtable where State Leadership learned what legislative changes are being proposed to address this epidemic.
Day 2, the Day of Action, began with a press conference where 15 Tribal and State Leaders sharing their thoughts and insights on the MMIP crisis. Following some beautiful cultural sharing, attendees completed a march around the Capitol grounds to raise awareness while Tribal Leaders met with individual State Leaders reinforcing the call for significant legislative change and budgetary support necessary to affect change.
We would like to gratefully acknowledge Chairman James and the Yurok Tribe for being a wonderful partner on this event as well as Tribal and State Leadership, MMIP advocates, community members, staff, and volunteers who all worked tirelessly to make this event possible.
