◾️What is happening in this picture?
💁🏽‍♀️Here I am performing laser hair removal with 755 wavelength (Alexandrite laser) for our PA who has fair skin and brown hair.

✨Lasers are not one size fits all- we tailor the device settings to the patient’s skin color, hair thickness and depth of hair follicle. If done improperly, one can burn the skin!

◾️Is laser hair removal safe for darker skinned patients?
💁🏽‍♀️For darker skinned patients, we use a longer wavelength of 1064nm to decrease risk of burning and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.

◾️Is it painful?
💁🏽‍♀️Icing before and after helps tremendously with the risk of burning and with the pain. It feels like a rubberband snap. You can always apply topical numbing cream prior to the procedure for pain control.

◾️How many treatments are needed?
💁🏽‍♀️Depending on the hair thickness, location, pain tolerance, hormonal influence, and skin type, it can take 6-10 treatments for 80% reduction.

As terrible as 2020 has been full of hardship and loss, I choose to take this New Year’s Weekend to reflect on the good things that happened in 2020:
-moved to San Diego
-started a new dermatology job that gives me more autonomy and training opportunities at
-positive, caring staff (also, shout out to - such a stand out employer!)
-joined the carbon health telemedicine team part time
-bought our first home!

What a great way to spend my day off this week!

✌🏼All I can do everyday is try to make the person next to me’s day just a 𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕥𝕝𝕖 bit better. Provide something more important that just medical care - compassion and that human connection. ❤️

“𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥’𝕤 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕕𝕒𝕚𝕝𝕪 𝕤𝕔𝕙𝕖𝕕𝕦𝕝𝕖 𝕠𝕗 𝕒 ℙ𝔸 𝕝𝕠𝕠𝕜 𝕝𝕚𝕜𝕖?”
This is a common question I get from my pre PA mentees. Here is the simplest answer:
ᴡʜᴀᴛᴇᴠᴇʀ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ɪᴛ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇ!!! 🙃
PA work schedules can vary drastically depending on the field of medicine in which the physician assistant works. For example, one reason that I love 𝔻𝕖𝕣𝕞𝕒𝕥𝕠𝕝𝕠𝕘𝕪 is because of the flexibility of the schedule. I work 𝔽𝕆𝕌ℝ 8-hour weekday shifts, which is considered full-time. Other PAs, such as ER, surgery or ICU PAs, may work less days during the month, but may have to work weekends and holidays.
Also, the great thing about being a PA is that we are trained to be general practitioners - meaning we don’t have to specialize!! Because of this, I was able to also work part-time splitting my time between urgent care and telemedicine shifts! So, in the past 1.5 years, I have consistently chose to work 50-60 hour weeks on average in order to get more experience, to make myself more well-rounded, and to ultimately become a better PA for my patients - because, after all -
𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕨𝕙𝕪 𝕀 𝕓𝕖𝕔𝕒𝕞𝕖 𝕒 ℙ𝔸!
This is the absolute beauty of becoming a PA- the ability to do what you love and help people at the same time. Tomorrow may be my first day off in a week, but I also wouldn’t change the decisions I have made for the world. My longest stint of days worked was 21 days in a row between dermatology and urgent care as a PA -
I may be exhausted most of the time and my husband may sometimes forget what I look like 😂, but HEY, what better way of spending my time than giving back to other 𝐻𝓊𝓂𝒶𝓃 𝒷𝑒𝒾𝓃𝑔𝓈 🌸

This is a tough post for me to share...
Although I do work in urgent care part-time in the San Diego area, I do not consider myself a FULL “frontline” worker.

As I work some days virtually in to help take some of the burden off the staff in the SF Bay and LA areas with their crazy high patient numbers walking into clinic, I can’t help but feel that I am not doing nearly ENOUGH.

Working a few shifts a month in urgent care and the rest of the time in dermatology and telemedicine, I can’t help but feeling guilty for not dropping everything to join my fellow employees up north who are on the actual FRONTLINES, risking their own health, safety, and the wellbeing of their own families (and their own sanity for that matter!) to fight this terrible virus, and trying to remember that I also have to keep myself and my family safe – in part in case I am needed eventually.

I just have to remind myself, as well as the people around me, this virus is not over. It is up to all of us to continue practicing safe precautions and trying to limit our exposure in our everyday lives. Be there to support those who are directly and indirectly affected by , be KIND to others, and for those of you who have been , you may be called to duty eventually, so be ready.
