The Lantern Farm
A beautiful farm with a gorgeous hay field...a home...a gathering place around a fire, in celebration of life, love and loss as a community family.
Now that’s a kings throne…our first equipment for the farm…
Happy Ganesh Chaturthi…
We welcomed new beginnings at the farm today.
Kids went back to school and we welcomed Ganpathi.
Yearly tradition to find strength to start new and learn ways to work through obstacles. Helps develop strategy and strength for the mind to live through our daily journeys.
We bring him blindfolded so he does not know the way to our home and we take him back on the 10th day and deliver him to the river…we acknowledge that everything is a passage. Learning to hold and let go.
We are celebrating goddesses at the farm…9 nights and 10 days. Exemplifying the forms of Durga/Devi or womanhood in simplest way to grasp the context. As women we draw on all our gunas which manifest as anger, love, hurt, compassion, revenge, perseverance and beyond. Together with all our gunas, in balance we fight evil and emerge victorious.
Durga Puja celebrates the creation, battle and victory of Goddess Durga.
Navratri is also the celebration of the three gunas – Tamas, Rajas and Sattva that are symbolised by Durga and her many forms but essentially by Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati respectively.
The gunas are responsible for our behaviour. Every being in this creation is caught in the play of gunas. ‘Tamas’ is ignorance or inertia. When Tamas is not in balance, we experience delusion, misunderstanding and dullness. ‘Rajas’ is activity, greed or desire. When Rajas trait dominates our personality, we feel restless, we are extremely greedy for money, and we have too many desires to accomplish. As a result, we either feel very excited or extremely low. Sattva is transcendence. Sattva is dominating in our environment or in our body when we feel light, happy, pleasant, alert and awake, and our perception is clear.
I call upon every woman reading this to believe and practice the thought: ‘I’m Durga’. I feel empowered to face my smallest to biggest problems with wisdom and ease. It’s important to tell ourselves, as much as possible: “I’m not a powerless, submissive woman, I’m Durga. I have all the necessary ‘weapons’ and now I can fight. I’m strong, intelligent, worthy. I can look at things rationally, be decisive, solve my problems objectively, at the same time fight my battles fearlessly, my emotional battles with grace while retaining the feminine qualities of motherly love, forgiveness, compassion, patience and dignity.”
Love from our family to yours…on the last day we all join in music, dance and celebration of failures and victories.
Our chief grower Bodhi wants to offer up cucumbers and green bell peppers. Please let us know if you would be interested. We would be happy to swing by to drop them off.
Last of the harvest weeks coming up…
Happy Janmashtami all!
Celebrating Krishna at the farm..
Happy Onam!!!
Giving, sharing, loving and celebrating together – that’s the essence of Onam.
Happy guru Purnima.
Hope you enjoyed the beautiful moon that embraced us just a bit ago reminding us of the care and comfort and Tough-love that we have received in our lives from all our teachers in every walk. This is a day dedicated to everyone who has offered some bit of their own story in the form of a teaching for others to embrace and grow.
On this day I offer my gratitude and my prayers to all the teachers who have come before me all the teachers will come after me and all of them who have allowed me on occasion to take the seat off a teacher for some other. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. There is yet so much to learn and embrace in this life and I am so grateful for the community and for the love that cares for us and loves us and guides us…
Namaskaram,
Laxmi
PS: I am still healing from my hand surgery and have another one on Monday. Taking this time to find my inner strength to meet my physical strength so I can hold space for others yet again. Thank you for your kind words and for all your prayers. Love and so much more love sending your way.

Hiya all!
Joy of farm life...learning to build and rebuild...
So this snowstorm we took a hard beating. Much of our plans and work underway suffered some setbacks. We took a few days to feel miserable, get frustrated, come to terms and then find the connection to the deeper purpose here.
But checking in to let you know that we are resilient and working on picking things back up a day at a time. And our commitment to serve this community with heart healthy vegetables gifted by earth still pushed us onward.
Sending love from our heart space to yours. Hope you and your loved ones sailed through safely.
🙏
The Lantern Family
What have we been up to you wonder?
There is always the dreaming of all that can materialize through us and the land and the acceptance of what we can and what it ends up being with just that much gratitude.
Some planning of raised beds underway. They will hold some of the basics that will be used for the Farm to Table meals once we resume Lantern Thursday’s (Food, Music & Community). Eager aane hopeful that we will get there by late Spring.
Also in the making is a pop-up farm store for non-perishable hand made creations. More to share on that in February.
Stay in peace and harmony...
Much love from all the hands that serve this farm....😘🙏❤️
The farm looks beautiful by night...all the work that has piled up does not show....
Sitting by the fire now...Pongolo Pongal...
Time for new beginnings...new resolutions...new habits....and some renewals...
Would you like to spend a day clearing out raised beds and making way for new seeds? Vegetables & Flowers...
Does the idea of planting seeds seem like the perfect backdrop for your day?
How about finding a home for trees being planted in memory of our loved ones?
Connecting with earth to deepen roots & our own journeys.
If any casual work around the farm interests you? Join this story.
Good Morning community!!!
Gratitude all around is the general feeling this morning before Thanksgiving holiday.
Our entire story surrounds loss and pain. There is pain in this world. It starts with acknowledgement. We are not trying to fix something that is broken. Somethings cannot be fixed. They can only be carried. Our hope with everything we do behind the mission inspiring Samsarafest is just that...
See your grief and hold your hands and help you navigate the painful, life-altering hole occupying your days unto when you feel ready to carry your grief.
Grief is part of love!!!
The Lantern offers a container to navigate loss by offering just a little light so you can way find.
Among other things that is part of this healing container is connecting with mother earth, its bounty and heart healthy produce to sustain your strength and positivity as you learn to make pain and loss part of your life.
We want your support this upcoming year and looking for atleast 10 families who would like to commit to contributing and sharing the bounty from this farmland.
If you are familiar with CSA, then you understand. Community share of the bounty from June - September.
Sign Up as a member - https://www.thelanternfarm.com/
How will your support be used?
To buy seeds, build composting solutions, high tunnel to extend the season, drop irrigation system, rain water collection system, offer avenues for mothers in healing to connect, prepare meals to be shared and also produce to be shared with families in need and more as life, creativity and drive will offer. The farming operation is not income replacement but a way to help our non profit become self sufficient to support the various monthly and annual healing programs we hope to continue or add to the stories.
Half of our weekly CSA shares will go to a family in need.
Loads of love from this farm life to yours...
