Cholesterol is a waxy fat-like substance that is found in the body and in some foods (animal products). Excess cholesterol can deposit in the arteries and put you at risk for heart disease. But not all cholesterol is created equal!
There are two main types of cholesterol: LDL (low density lipoprotein) also called a bad cholesterol because high levels can clog the arteries and HDL (high density lipoprotein) which is called good cholesterol because it carries cholesterol from other parts of the body back to the liver. .
Lifestyle modifications can help you maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Eat more high fiber foods such as whole grains and fresh fruits & vegetables. Cut back on foods high in saturated or trans fats, stay active, and don't smoke or quit if you do. .
