Ever heard of the "Dog Days of Summer"? This term refers to the hottest, most humid period of summer, typically occurring in July or August depending on location. The exact origin is a bit fuzzy, but some believe it's linked to the constellation Sirius, the Dog Star, which rises alongside the sun during this time.

While the "Dog Days" might make us dream of beaches and popsicles, they can also be dangerous for our health. Here's a key health tip to beat the heat: Hydration is king! Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink water. Aim to sip fluids throughout the day, even if you don't feel parched. Carry a reusable water bottle with you and keep it refilled. By staying hydrated, you can avoid heatstroke, headaches, and fatigue, ensuring you enjoy all the fun of summer!

The HeartFlow® FFRCT Analysis - A Personalized Heart Test

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States.1 CAD develops when the arteries leading to the heart narrow or become blocked, which may lead to a reduction in blood flow to the heart, causing chest pain, heart attacks and death. Despite being the most common form of heart disease, many of the non-invasive tests available today have low accuracy rates in detecting the disease.

OIC is advancing the diagnosis of CAD with the HeartFlow Analysis. This non-invasive heart test provides a personalized 3D model of your coronary arteries that shows how each blockage impacts blood flow to your heart. This detailed information, which was previously only available through an invasive procedure, helps your doctor determine the next step in your treatment plan.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM), a time to focus on the importance of vaccinations for people of ALL ages!

At Oregon Imaging Centers, we understand the crucial role vaccinations play in safeguarding public health.

Here's why vaccinations are vital:

They protect you and your loved ones from serious diseases.
They help prevent outbreaks and ensure herd immunity.
They're safe and effective.

Check your immunization records! If you're unsure about your vaccination status, talk to your doctor. Many healthcare providers offer catch-up appointments to ensure you're up-to-date on all recommended immunizations. Vaccines are especially important for children returning to school in the Fall.

Let's build a healthier community!

How Much Water Do You REALLY Need?

Staying hydrated is crucial for our health, especially during the hot summer months! But how much water is actually enough?

The truth is, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. The amount of water you need depends on several factors, including:

Your weight and activity level: Larger bodies and those who sweat more need more fluids.
Climate: Hot and humid environments require increased water intake.
Overall health: Certain medical conditions may necessitate adjustments in water intake.
Here's a general guideline:

Adults: Aim for around 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids per day for men and 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) for women.
But remember, this is just a starting point!

Listen to your body: Pay attention to thirst cues like dry mouth and fatigue. If your urine is dark yellow, you might need more fluids.

Beware of overhydration: While rare, drinking excessive amounts of water can lead to electrolyte imbalance.

Oregon Imaging Centers recommends consulting your doctor to determine the ideal daily water intake for your individual needs.

3 Common Myths About Diagnostic Medical Imaging

Worried about getting an MRI or CT scan? Let's clear the air!

Myth #1: All Imaging Uses Radiation.

Myth #2: Scans Are Painful.

Busted! Most imaging is painless. You may feel some slight discomfort from lying still, but our technologists are experts at making you comfortable.

Myth #3: Imaging Costs a Fortune.
